I did not put this in the rules thread as that seems to be about official rules, whereas this inquiry concerns house rules. Does anyone know of any campaign/unofficial rules for petards? If so, a link would be fantastic, or the rules cut and pasted. I know I could easily make them up, but it is nice to point to a precedent for my players, for extra validity! I might play about with them and make it more powerful as the petard in question, to be used against the gate of Ravola, is a large one, requiring a carriage and several men to push it ... This is but one of the several many ingenious novelties and versions of engines that have been employed in my Tilean campaign. It seems to be a realm of imaginative experimenters!

I can’t say I know of any rules for it or anything similar sorry. Would there be anything in the old siege rules, whether 3rd or 5th ed etc. or even the old 3rd rule book (Though I think that just had standard cannons)

Would there be anything in the old siege rules, whether 3rd or 5th ed etc. or even the old 3rd rule book (Though I think that just had standard cannons) I have everything from 1st to 3rd, and from 6th to 8th, and I can find nothing. I even have that really old Warhammer Siege book, but failed to find petard rules. The only mention of 'petard' was about the Chaos Dwarf mortar thing, which, well, is not what I thought I petard was! But the term might have been historically generally applicable to anything bell shaped and filled with powder. Let's face is, 'artillery' is a term which once meant missiles in general, even non powder! The rules I have come up with have been ok'd by both players so we're good to go!

Really, a petard is merely a huge bomb in wheels. Decide the toughness and wounds of a wall and give the petard enough T or T+1 hits over a large round template to give it a fair but not guaranteed shot at breaching it. Make it T4, 5 wounds, crew appropriately. If killed by a flaming attack it detonates in place. Done.

I haven't ever heard of that before, but I could totally see it being attached to something huge, like a Landship or Castle.
