So we did a yearly challenge thread in 2020 with a load of targets to "hit", but I think it's better to see what goals people want to set for themselves this time around. We have the monthly threads as a motivator to keep painting through the year, but this is a chance to think about what you want to have achieved by the end of the year. For me, I got a pretty good number of models painted last year, helped by some extra time off related to the Covid goings-on. I had considered challenging myself to paint 365 models this year, but I think that'll really be pushing things, and take the fun out of painting. So instead, my main goals are: - 100% complete my Dark Elf army. I've done most the models but it's the tricky stuff now - shrines, chariots, characters, the AoS harpies, some monsters. The Druchii are my favourite army, and I'd love to have every last model of them painted.
- 100% complete my Dwarf army. I actually had this goal achieved a couple of years ago, but bought some more in 2019. It's not much - about 20-30 infantry and some random goat riders left to do.
- Paint more models than I get. This of course depends on how many models I buy, and I've no intention of holding back on the purchases! I'll need to build up a strong advantage or my wife will try to sabotage this goal next Christmas.
If I can achieve those, I'd also like to get some of my favourite big monsters done - the Mierce "tower" skeleton giant, my Merwyrm, and possibly a Forge World dragon too. Then I'll see what core troops I can crack out for my other armies.
What are your goals for this year?

I have no hard goals this year. Last year it was to get my Chaos Dwarfs on the table, this year I think I just want to make progress through my unpainted daemons and add a few things needed for our Takurkhan campaign
- Paint a good chunk of daemons: Khorne & Slaanesh Battalions, Soulgrinder, Burning Chariot, Skarbrand, Kairos, 3x Greater Daemons, Exalted Chariot
- Paint some Tamurkhan bits which will finish off my Chaos Dwarfs: Hobgoblin Wolfriders, Khan & Destroyer
- Bugman's Rangers should we happen to get as far as phase 4 in Tamurkhan (we won't)
- Paint a few Wood Elf testers

My goal is to finally find a way to replicate my 35 years enamel painting style but using acrylic paints, so that I can continue my 'look' and make figures that fit in with the rest of my collection.
(Edit) And having said that, and indeed already tried for a year, I have given up and today bought some dip to try a more modern way of painting!!!!

I’ll give myself a few.
1) To pretty much complete my dwarves.
This shouldn’t be too taxing. The bulk is 40 GW warriors. There are then assorted characters (mainly metal runesmiths and engineers but there is the newer Thorgrim too which has never left the box..) and a bolt thrower and some 3rd edition metal RnF. In terms of further purchases, it should be pretty limited. Another gyro and maybe a goblobber if I ever see one at a reasonable price.
2) continue with my Brets and Lizards. Mainly building and painting.
3) perhaps start building/painting my Empire
4) Build a Garden Office/man cave

My main challenges to myself this year are as follows:
1) Paint more than I buy, I achieved this last year but my pile of shame is still well I'm excess of 500 models.
2) Paint at least 400 models, I achieved 365 last year which has been a personal hobby challenge for a long time, so this year in going to try to push even harder.
3) Complete the walls of Volganof so Naitsabes and I can play the game we've been working towards for years.

My goals....🤔
1) Get my commission painting service off to a good start with a nice flow of work coming in.
2) Catalog and photograph my models. This will be an ever-ongoing process, but I'm aiming to average around posting 1 pic to my Instagram account per day.
3) Learn how to operate my new 3D printer effectively. Once I'm comfortable with that, invest in, and learn, Z-brush modeling software. I already have nearly 20 years experience using AutoCAD, Tecla, SketchUp and Revit 3D software in architecture, so, hopefully, I'll pick it up fairly quickly.
4) And on a more personal side, I'd like to finish my fledgling Beastmen army, so that as I add to it, I can simply paint the new pieces and keep it completely painted. I'm not looking to explode this army anytime soon, so this may be achievable. I'd also like to finish off one other army. I'm thinking either Dwarves or Wood Elves.
Other than those, I just want to "touch-up" models that I painted a while back and didn't do a very good job on, or didn't finish.
Yeah....that 'bout covers it.

To carry on painting and not give up, and get inspiration from the talented painters on this site!  Mainly, to get as much painted as I can for my Beastman army! I have slowed down, but not stopped yet. Usually, across 30 odd years in the hobby, if I ever painted, it may have been for a few days a year, get a few models done. From August last year I have managed over one hundred beastmen (including a chariot!) which is a massive painting achievement for me, so thanks for the encouragement here! |

I want to get my painted lizardmen up to 5,000 points this year. I am around 3,000 or a little more right now. That’s the main thing.
I also want to build some more skaven minis. My friend has been commission painting my skaven on and off for years now but he doesn’t have many of my minis in hand right now.

For 2021, I am hopeful to:
-Round out my painted VC army and have 4000 points painted before magic items (around 2500 currently since October)
-Finish printing and priming a HE Army for another player
-Round out a Dwarf army (print, prime base cost a gradient blue with airbrush) for another player
-Paint a serviceable Ogre Kingdoms army of 2500 points before magic items (have about 750 right now but need to convert some bases still)
-Get faster painting rank and file troops and better at painting lords/heroes/centerpiece items.
I think that’s enough and certainly manageable over the year if I stay on top of painting things. Just keep grinding away.

let's see, in order of importance:
1) buy the right house for some serious garage-hammering
2) fight over Volganof with a certain kaltheras
3) round out the undead to ~3K
4) chip away at Grey Mountain in general. that means mostly Empire and Chaos.
so, nothing major really.

Continue slow work on my beastmen.
Chip away at my ridiculous unpainted plastic, metal and resin stash.
Assemble some fatties.
Add a little to my vampire counts.
Add a little to my mercenaries.
Do a bit of terrain, mainly a couple of trees/shrubbery and Morr stuff.
Enjoy hobbying.

I want to start painting a ”new” army this year. With new I mean one of the armies I have purchased but not used yet.
And I have started with high elves. BSB on barded steed is the first one out. Prince probably second.
I also want to come closer to finish my woodies.
Also finish 3-4 more pieces from table top world. As I will not buy more before finish the ones I got. 😀

The big one for me is to 100% complete my High Elves army. This is mostly just painting but there's a couple of things I still want to pick up:
Lothern Skycutter, 6E Imrik, Eltharion the Blind, and 6E Tyrion
After that, I want to make a big dent on my Crooked Moon Night Goblin army, which is going to be pretty conversion/kitbash heavy. I'm looking forward to it a lot.

Top of my list is finishing my High Elf army, and trying to find models for all the characters I'm missing.
Then I'm hoping to start either the Skaven I've started collecting, or the Lumineth Realm-lords so I can have a small army for AoS.

Hopefully, it's not too late to jump on this. I don't have any specific army goals, I just want to paint at least 125 minis this year. Last year my goal was 104, and I surpassed that, so I figured I'd shoot a little higher this year. I'm working on a 1500 point Wood Elf army right now and it'd be nice to get that done this year. As well as a unit of flagellants I started last year. Only fifteen more to go.
