Hello all, glad to see there’s some kind of WHEE community still alive and well.
I play dwarves and ogres. Both armies are capable of fielding 3000 pts with ease and good representation across the board.
As a player, it’s me vs my friend who plays High Elves. No other armies.
I just came home for the first time in a while and we got 5 games in. 4 dwarf, 1 ogre. I lost every single one of them. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I won a game.
For dwarves, I find that I of course do exceptionally well during the ranged portion of the game. Once in a while a magic phase or two will come around that will completely turn the game on it’s side, but for the most part, my losses are coming from close combat.
With ogres, I’m able to at least stand a chance of shutting down his MP, get some nice iron blaster kills, maybe a mournfang charge, even a big ogre charge, and the get roundly kicked in the face by his sword masters/Phoenix guard/white lions - and even though I’m usually running crown of command, he’s always got me on unit size so is always steadfast (last game I had a 19 irongut horde with slaughter master, bruiser, butcher and big ogre charge, killed 26 models, but he was still at ~37 models and managed to kill 9 ogres on first round of combat) which usually ends with a successful break test.
I’ve been playing my friend for about 7 years on and off since I’ve moved, but this year, the ward saves, extra ranks, cheap units, strong magic and reroll to hit were all too much and I am on the brink of throwing in the towel.
All the hell hearts, gyrocopters, organ guns, slaughter masters, iron breakers, great weapons, gromril armor, dispel items, mournfang and so on is never enough.
Since we only play each other his lists are always tailored perfectly for the situation. Even when he memes I can’t get a win (at least this year).
I’m running out of ideas. I have a Lizardmen book and am thinking of dropping an ungodly amount of money in the hopes that I can get it done with them.
The dwarf toolkit is too limited and the models are too expensive to match his numbers. They are too slow and too soft to deal with the constant routing and massive hit counts.
The ogres pack a huge punch, but against 50+ model sized units, never do quite enough to break his units to secure the win.
It basically comes down to getting a lucky break test roll on the rare occasion that I do win combat. If he flees with his horde of whatever elite unit he brought that game I stand a chance, but still have to chew threw an Assyrian and 40 spears, helms, 2-4 boltthrowers, sisters and whatever the hell else is left if I don’t get absolutely shut down by a pit of shades on turn 1.
Idk why I’m even posting this. I need help but am confident that my lists are strong, my tactics are sound and so on.
Tl;dr I play dwarves and ogres against my friends high elves and lose 90% of the time. I HATE high elves.
Inb4 git gud, ur bad, high elves are easy to beat with my ogres/dwarves I’ve literally never lost etc..
