Just played against the empire, and I need A LOT of clarification about the dear old steam tank.
1. If a steam tank rolls a miscast on the artillery die to generate steam points, does it still generate those steam points or are they lost?
in our game, my opponent would roll to generate 5 steam points and then rolled a miscast. He then rolled a D3 + the steam points generated (this wording makes me think yes but I need to make sure) and ended with a 7 which means he took 2 wounds but ended up with 7 steam points. Is that right?
2. Is there any limit to the amount of steam points that can be spent on an action by the steam tank? My opponent had 7 if played properly from the above scenario and could have used a strength 8 breath weapon if there is no limit. Or don’t 8D3 strength 6 hits in close combat. And this is possible because of a miscast?!?! Seems a bit backwards to me that someone is stronger because of a miscast.
3. Is there any limitation to the grinding of a steam tank? In the scenario, the steam tank was head to head against a black coach. Does the grinder option of the steam tank work against anything and everything?
4. Can a steam tank grind in all directions or only straight ahead?
5. Lastly, if all of these rules are correct, then why would an empire player ever not try to generate 5 steam points? If you roll lower than your wounds you get 5 points, if you roll above your wounds you have a 33% chance of it being better for you and a 33% chance of it being removed. And 33% chat cep of doing 2d6 strength 2 hits(which isn’t a bad thing against hordes of weak enemies.
Maybe I’m salty, but it seems to me like a miscast on the steam tank is more often a benefit instead of a detriment. I’m sure clarity will come for these questions so thanks in advance.
