Does anyone know of a good alternative the GW mounted Wight king? That model just feels a bit outdated compared the rest of the line, not opposed to conversion ideas just not that confident in doing a good job myself.

I used the old mounted vampire (Red Duke?) model and converted it with some spare parts from the Black Knights/Grave guard kits, a von Carstein shield, plus random cloak: It's not the best model, and I feel I could do much better these days, but it does the job. The horse makes it stand out from other Black Knights. Unfortunately that mounted vampire isn't available now. Other options: - Mannfred's old mounted model - this is still available. Substitute the torso for a Black Knight one, and pick a fancy lance / shield / head to make it stand out.
- The plastic Wight King on foot - I've seen a few conversions that use that torso on a Black Knight. It's a lot of work fixing the cloak up though.
- Just bling up a Black Knight. Raise its height up by standing on a large stone (heroes seem to love these). Use the Grave Guard champion head (it's got massive "bat wings" that make it stand out. Use a von Carstein shield to further distinguish it. Pick or convert a chunky looking weapon. Find a spare cloak from somewhere if you can. Give it a special paint job, and you're done.
EDIT: Give the horse a unicorn style horn as well - that helps to make it stand out.

Undead unicorn sounds like a good idea, only a newbie to VC's so not really aware of the old range. The Mannfred model sounds best for me, all the pieces should be in a bits box round here somewhere... Thanks!

The Red Duke was the model below - but Mannfred is a much better model to base a Wight King off:

one can certainly get very elaborate. some cool options here. I went low key. just black knight horse and legs, then a torso/arms/head from the sepulchral guard box. There are one or two in there sporting a crown-like band around their head...like a king of old.
