Thanks for the write-up. so e.g. the Vampire PC all the way in the north and the VMC PC in the south, have they ever actually played a game?
It definitely seems like being the GM and getting to play all the NPC is a lot of fun.

7 real-world years in and the VMC player had finally marched his army north to join in the alliance against the vampires. But...
- the vampires are an NPC faction now so volunteer players run them in the play-by-email games - the VMC player finally got reports of the Sartosans attacking his realm of Alcente and so has divided his army sending half north to assist as he promised and marching the other half, with his own character, south again - the war against the vampires is probably already all but won so whether or not eveb half the VMC's army is needed is debatable
Also, the Portomaggioran player has complained (rightfully) that the VMC player has sent the wrong half of his army to help - he needed artillery, but all that, including a MASSIVE Reman gun the arch-lector had loaned them, is marching south again! More bizzarely, the guns are slowing the southbound army down on its so-called 'race' to save te city of Alcente. They are too far away and moving too slow to get there in time to help at all!
All typical of this campaign, and (I think) what makes it seem more 'real'.
As for my fun, yeah, it is great running the campaign. Except for years now whenever an NPC army plays a tabletop game, I get one of the other players to command it for the battle so that I can concentrate on pictures, communications, notes, rules, etc.

Allies complaining about the forces supporting them and then generals making tactical blunders are quality touches.

Interestingly, the player whose army is rushing home haas realised the artillery trayne is slowing him down and is considering leaving it to follow on as best it can. Just considering mind - he must love those guns! He has a big gun that was gifed him for the war against the vampires by the Reman Arch Lector. It hasn't been in a story yet but here it is in a modelling photo ... In comparison with an Empire great cannon ... That thing would surely slow any army down!?

I'm curious, did you and the players make up all of the npc's and pc's or is this part of the true lore of Tilea?

The map is strongly influenced by official and other available maps, but beyond that, it's all made up. The players play their characters as they like but the rest is influenced by the historical reading I did in preparation for the campaign - a shelf of books about renaissance Italy! Thus the church of Morr being like the Roman Catholic church, and nearly all the names being modified historical ones!
So, not really official at all.

I find this explanation great Padre. I've been following your reports for some time but the behind the scenes look is facinating and offering plenty of food for thought. Cheers.
