Hi everyone. Quick question. The rules for breath weapon state "Provided the model is not in close combat, it can use its Breath Weapon during its Shooting phase. A Breath Weapon shooting attack can be made even if the model marched or reformed during the same turn." Because this does not specifically contradict the shooting rules that state you cannot make a shooting attack after a failed charge would I be correct in assuming you cannot use it?
The example I'm thinking of is this: my mournfang cavalry charge a unit, fail, and end up 3 inches away. I would like to use my icy blast breath weapon to give the opponents unit asl to deter them from charging my unit on their turn. Thanks in advance!

The one other caveat I would add is the first line from the breath weapon entry that states 'a model with a breath weapon can use it to make a "special" attack once per game. Emphasis being on the special incase that means it doesn't follow the specific rules for shooting attacks

No you can not. Breath weapon is a shooting attack even though its special.
”BREATH WEAPON SHOOTING ATTACK Provided the model is not in close combat, it can use its Breath Weapon during its Shooting phase. A Breath Weapon shooting attack can be made even if the model marched or reformed during the same turn.”
As stated under shooting you can not shoot if you declared a charge.
”WHO CAN SHOOT? To launch a successful shooting attack requires a degree of preparation as most weapons take a long time to load or aim. As a result, a model that wishes to make a shooting attack must have had a relatively uneventful Movement phase. The most common reasons a model cannot shoot are:
• They marched in the preceding Movement phase – weapons will have been shouldered and ammunition secured while the unit advanced.
• They reformed, rallied or declared a charge.”

What strutsagget says, although the quote should read: "They reformed, rallied or made a failed charge in the preceding Movement phase — they're too busy getting back into formation" ( Italics mine).

Ahh that's what I thought. Thanks for the clarification! Would have been a useful trick.

As it happens, strutsagget gave the correct quote, as it was amended in the Update Version.
