Thanks everyone. @ Mottdon. I only have one offically Empire Army, Middenheim (the Pavonans in my campaign, and as they are the same colours, sometimes used in the Portomaggioran pictures). But, I also have an army of Tilean mercenaries and another army of City State Militia, both of which could be fielded as Empire. And I have an Arabyan army which can basically be fielded as an Empire list. And I have a pirate army which I used to field using the Empire list. Next Tilean Unit ... Compagnia del Sole (Condottieri Company) heavy horse. And here in a battle ... And here witnessing their general swear a sacred oath before a likeness of the goddess Myrmidia ...

How many miniatures have you painted fella, must have hordes of them! Really nice scene there. How did the battle go for them?

Tilean Condotta soldiers of the Compagnia del Sole, Halberdiers regiment ... Perry Miniatures, posed to shoulder pikes mostly. In battle ... Their banner is actual silk cloth from an old handkerchief my grandma gave me ... I even used the emroidered design in the corner of the kerchief to make a royal standard for a building ...

Men at arms
I messed about with some Perry Miniatures plastics, using some GW bits ... Here are the ones with Games Workshop arms and blades ... Once added to my existing (old) figures, I formed a regiment ... In battle ... ... I could do galloper guns next, one official, one kit-bashed copy. The rest I might have to do new photos for 'cos I'm struggling to find them!

18. A Brace of Galloper Guns (One official and one a scratch-build facsimile)One of my pair of galloper guns is the official Bronzino model, the other is a fake of my own devising. This was due mainly to the fact that I couldn't get my hands on another at anything like a reasonable price, although it is also nice that they aren't clones! First, I hacked the wheels off a couple of old cannons I made decades ago from bullet casings! Here’s one of the original rather silly looking guns ... Then I fashioned up a frame not dissimilar to the official model, using a 20mm ECW gun and a Perry Miniatures plastic horse ... I added a collar of real wool to the horses' neck, painted with glue ... Then I fashioned some crewmen to copy the official models in form ... Gathering up the pieces ... ... I began assembling, and painting the wood and metal. I went for a livery of red and green, as I wanted this company to be an independent mercenary unit, not a part of my 'famous' (dark blue and dark red) Compagnia del Sole! Here's the official Citadel model ... And here's my copy of it ... Together they make a lovely brace of guns. Here you can see them as they were pictured arriving at the army camp of the first Reman alliance army under the command of the Arch-Lector Calictus II And here you can see the commander himself, Captain Barbiano Pandolfo … NB: If you are wondering why there are arabyans with them, they traveled with Gedik Mamidous' mercenary company from Araby, known as the 'Sons of the Desert'!

Amazing stuff, you could print a book with all those amazing dioramas alone. Do you photoshop the bases out of the pictures afterwards?

... Do you photoshop the bases out of the pictures afterwards? Buckets of flock, poured, brushed into place, then swept back into the container after the photo shoot! It's an insane system, I know, but I don't have Photoshop! If you look at my website you will see literally many hundreds of these scenes. www.bigsmallworlds.com

It is not as insane as it seems! It's actually probably faster than painfully editing every base afterwards and less tedious.

I edit pictures with MS Paint, and recently with the 3D equivalent. That can be very labour intensive, although since my machine got the 3D option has become a bit easier. I mostly edit to correct things like hairs on the figures that I failed to notice when posing them, etc.
