Whatever way you do it, very thin layers of thinned paint is what you will be using. I'm starting to think maybe get the silver down then carefully glaze the channels with black. Let the capillary action do its work

More Warriors Cannons I had so much fun doing the last batch of warriors that the next unit jumped the painting queue! Something about these old models, they’re all different so it never feels like a chore - a bit like only painting character models. (I think many were actually given names by Citadel when released.) ~~~ Snorri Galazgrund, renowned Runesmith of the Stone Carvers clan, excelled in all forms of artisanship in his youth, from shaping leather and brewing ale, to forging armour and minting coin. Yet like all Dwarfs who reside in Karak Azul, the southernmost of the great holds of the World Edge Mountains, he is frequently called upon to set aside his daily crafts to join his brethren in defence of the realm and wage war.
Snorri had always been captivated by the old tales of Grugni and his ability to sense the winds of magic, resist its fickle nature and harness its power into steel and stone. It was while defending the gates against a tide of ratmen, that he first realised that he too had a talent for such things. Fighting alongside his brothers Thoraz and Anarin, he could feel the pulse of the winds of magic in the air. When one of the mutant rats, gaunt and disheveled, began squeaking a deranged high-pitched chant and raised a twisted staff crackling with lightning, Snorri knew he had to act fast. "Spellcaster!" screamed his impetuous brother Thoraz charging headfirst into the cabal of ratmen protecting the cloaked wizard. He wouldn't make it in time - thought Snorri as he tightened his grip on his hammer. He could feel the winds of magic quickening in the air and swirling around in front of him in a way he had never felt before. As the sorcerer's chanting reached a peak, Snorri focused his mind on the might of his ancestors and swung his hammer in a high arc and slammed it into the ground. With a loud SNAP, the lightning earthed to the ground in front of him and he and his kin were left unharmed.
The swarms of vermin were pushed back that day and the guardians of Karak Azul regrouped and strengthened. After the battle, stories of Snorri's deeds reached the ear of the master runelord Thorek Ironbrow and he was later invited for tutelage in the runesmiths guild. Today Snorri is often called upon to command the Throng in defence of the hold while his Lord is away on crusades of vengeance. ~~~ I’ve been thinking about lists for a tournament this summer here in the UK. (My first ever Warhammer tournament..) I’ve not settled on one yet but thinking about the models I could go for an oldhammer style army with dwarf warriors for core, led by Snorri the Runesmith. I’ve got a couple months yet so could possibly squeeze in another unit too.. Army shot coming soon! I don’t have the space to invest in a board and terrain currently but soon as I get the chance I’ll try to post something here

Lovin those dwarf spearmen, rare as a vein of mithril ore these modele! Thank you. Yes quite rare, however to be honest it took me longer to collect the dwarfs with great weapons. I think because Dwarfs can't use spears anymore in the rules, the demand for the models isn't as great. I find the trick with ebay is to buy job lots and sell the ones you don't need..!

Really nice work! Love the models and the paint jobs. Really making me want to paint some dwarfs now! You have a lot of warmachines! One thing I'd add as an option is having some shooting units, a unit of thunderers or crossbows can work wonders and can cause good damage, and still be equipped to handle themselves in combat. I never leave the hold without a unit or two of 10 strong thunderers.

Beautiful! Love some old sculpts. Dwarfs used to be so amazingly goofy and full of character.

Yes, I’ve taken bolt throwers instead but thunderers are a good choice too, particularly as they can use the stand and shoot rule.

Fine work, I think the black layer for your Ironbreakers and the dry brush has worked really well.
