I used this force against chuckjerry the other day. I liked how it played.
Lords:
Vampire Lord, lv 4 caster, 4+ ward, heavy armor/shield, quickblood (Skeletons)
Heroes:
Wight King BSB, dragonhelm, heavy armor/shield (Grave Guard)
Wraith (starts in zombies but generally runs ahead to annoy things)
Level 2 Necro (both necros go in the same zombie bunker, opposite corners)
Level 1 Necro ("")
Core:
50 Skeletons, full command
28 zombies, fc
26 zombies, fc
10 Skeleton archers, fc
5 wolves
Special:
25 Grave Guard, great weapons, fc
10 Crypt Horrors, ghast
2 bat swarms
Spirit Host
Rare:
Casket of Souls
Screaming Skull Catapult
With the 3 casters and the casket I was able to get some pretty large dice pools. Granted my spells are not very offensive but healing back crypt horrors, grave guard, and wounded characters is demoralizing to opponents. I can also plan on getting those small zombie units to 50+ in a few rounds of invocation.
I like the Nigel Stillman school of building an army and learning to get good with it. I would make some minor changes based on opponents (swap out characters to get a banshee against certain opponents) but try to keep the force pretty much the same. I'd also like to field more skeleton archers once I have them painted, maybe field them in place of bat swarms or a necro.
I absolutely love Undead Legion and the ability to field those TK units for flavor.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Just wondering what the Nigel Stillman approach is

Sure. Stillmania came about in the mid 90s when Nigel worked for GW. White Dwarf ran a series of articles about his approach to warhammer fantasy. Essentially it's about collecting and painting an army of a particular size, then playing games with that army and leaving the list alone. The idea is to learn to adapt to all types of opponents and to even play as a points underdog sometimes. Naming your characters and units makes the games more meaningful as well and gives your force a life of their own.
This is such a refreshing take on warhammer as it seems to have taken a turn to more WAAC and tournament effectiveness up until its "end".
KevinC is a HUGE fan of Stillman.

I love the Stillman approach. It is how my Dwarfs are often played. I think we need to start a long series of games where you are only allowed one change in your army from battle to battle maximum.

Tim and I did that long slow escalation thing a few years ago. We started out with a character and added troops after each game. The loser of the battle got to add more points than the winner. Over a week the game was at maybe 1500 points.

Haha. I have all the White Dwarfs with the Stillmania articles. I remember them fondly.
I like the 'shambleness' of your army as a big mass of undead coming to nom everything just like a horror movie or one of those old Warhammer books. Cavalry schmavalry!
Looks great on the table and seems like it would be a fun army to play with/against.... all those resurrecting zombies to kill.
Speaking of Stillmania... does your Jerkface Von Carstein Vamp Lord have a name?

I like the inclusion of the casket, stone thrower and some archers. It gives a new flavor that the VCs couldn't previously have. Only thing about this list is how would you deal with enemy monsters? My guess is that this is why you mention swapping in a banshee against certain enemies.

Monsters? I guess the crypt horrors would be good against a monster. The stone thrower could kill them too.

I think you should drop a Necro for a Liche Priest, almost as a TK contingent commander of sorts.

I'm now looking at the liche priest running death lore. I've got a sinister undertaker mini made by Reaper that I plan to use for this.
