Oooh that's a cool topic!
I usually stay away from model company brushes. They seem severely overpriced to me. Dunno how GW's products are nowadays but I had some bad experiences with their brushes in the past and I just keep away as a rule.
Having some artistic background I usually sourced my brushes from art supply shops. I've tested quite a few brands: Van Gogh, Windsor & newton, Daler-Rowney etc. However my favourites come from a German based company Lineo. Their 190 line red sable round brushes are great quality and are pretty durable too. They last me at least a couple of months of intensive painting and cost between 2-4 euros each. They aren't always easy to get, so I stock up heavily whenever I find them.
I also use larger synthetic brushes for slapping down washes and drybrushing occasionally. I am not too picky when it comes to these and just buy whatever's available.

I've had some quality issues with the Citadel brushes. The small layer brush has been pretty great, but the medium layer and medium base brushes can't hold a point at all. They splay all too easily. I just ordered a Raphael brush to try that out, hoping it's better at holding a point. My real workhorses have been Princeton synthetic brushes. I'm a huge fan of the firmness and springiness of the synthetics, but the tips curl all too quickly. Although sometimes, a curled tip on a brush is just what the doctor ordered to get around raised detail on a model.
