In this thread I thought it would be a good place to discuss the various ways to equip a WoC BSB.
I for one usually go for one of these two inside a block of Nurgle Warriors:
Exalted Hero [216pts]: Battle Standard Bearer, Halberd, Mark of Nurgle, Hideous Visage, Scaled Skin, Dawnstone, Dragonhelm, Ironcurse Icon
Exalted Hero [223pts]: Battle Standard Bearer, Mark of Nurgle, Shield, Hideous Visage, Scaled Skin, Sword of Might,Talisman of Endurance
Lately however I've been entertaining the notion of a free-roaming BSB on a daemonic mount with the following equipment: Exalted Hero [271pts]: Battle Standard Bearer, Halberd, Mark of Nurgle, Nurgle's Rot, Soul Feeder, Daemonic Mount:Barding, Charmed Shield, Talisman of Preservation.
While it wouldn't have the same protection as the classic Hortennse variety it seems like it would still provide a good alternative to the foot sloggers mentioned above. With the added base size of the daemonic mount the incredibly thematic Nurgle's Rot would also be given its opportunity to shine.
One of my opponents regularly runs something along these lines:
Exalted Hero - Mark of Tzeentch, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed shield, Third Eye of Tzeentch, Barded Daemonic Mount, Halberd. It's a fairly standard build that gives a 1+ (vs shooting), 2+ in combat, 3++ ward re-rolling 1's.
Occasionally he runs it on a disc, normally with the enchanted shield rather than charmed shield but he much prefers the Mount now, due to the additional pip of toughness and wound it gives.
Interesting, I like the use of the name drop Hortennse. On a more serious note looks good going defensively with a WoC BSB is the best idea as you need him to stick around and you certainly have to be mindful of the challenge situation. I would be tempted with the glittering scales and Mark of Nurgle for a foot slogger as an alternative.
