What can ogres field which is useful against ethereal units?? I saw knoffles tactica on it, but I don’t see how the fire belly can do much more than get a spell off against them. What am I missing?

May armies can struggle with this. One solution open to everyone are characters with a 5 or 10 point magic item.
However, Ogres have an excellent solution. Yhetees, who in my mind are one fo the best units in the game, count their attacks as magical due to their ice weapons. They are super fast too, meaning you can get them where they need to be in order to crush ethereals!

It partially depends on what you are fighting. Most of the time ethereal units are not particularly strong and are there to annoy you buy holding you up. As such, your best bet is often to simply beat them through combat rez.
Like Kevin said though, a single magic item Ogre Characters will most short work of them.

Well someone is bringing a Green Knight against me this evening and I’m trying to figure out what to do about it. The lists are set and I didn’t give anyone a magic weapon.
Also- I just refreshed myself on why I own zero yhetees. They have zero protection AND flammable to boot.

I think job one is to just make sure you get your charge off. Nothing worse than losing those impact attacks and getting locked in with someone you can't hurt.
Once you are in combat with him, you might be better off just ignoring him. Depending on how your characters are built, you could just lock him into a challenge. Even with +2 Strength, he will struggle to kill ogre characters quickly. With 4 attacks 3+ then 3+ he is still only likely to do 2 wounds to you unarmored. Your number 1 spell would be trollguts, but if you manage to get +1 T, it means he is only wounding your characters on 4+. A slaughter master could just heal that back every turn.

Only thing I’d say really here is I think he will solo charge with him. Putting him in a unit against my force is a disadvantage. I have some ideas, we will have to see what spells I get though.

I am not sure he can join a unit, anyway. He "cannot be broken in combat" - I should think that means he is Unbreakable.

As it happens, under his Ethereal special rule, it specifically states that he "cannot join or be joined by units or characters."

I always find a pair of yhetees to be very hard to play against. Also pretty sure I have seen a tournament champion running a pair.
As a woodie I always need to spend a full turn shooting them when they appear and hope both will not appear the same turn.

Yhetees, who in my mind are one fo the best units in the game What --------I get the fire vulnerability and no save is not popular, BUT they have some big advantages. 1. They are fast monstrous infantry (I think the fastest monstrous infantry that can't fly). Movement 7 and swift stride makes a big different on the battlefield. 2. Their combined special rules make give them the advantage over a lot of infantry and monstrous infantry. They strike a I4, and reduce the WS of the opponent by 1. They will strike a lot of units first on 3+'s to hit - which can really slaughter a lot of WS 3 (or lower) infantry and monstrous infantry (a lot of monstrous infantry are WS 3 or 4, giving Yhetees the advantage or equalizing the fight). 3. Magical Attacks come in handy, hence this thread topic!

I can’t necessarily disagree with some of those points... but. A Yhetee is a 44pt model, min 3. So that’s 132pts to a unit which has zero protection and it’s primary target in my view would be something ethereal.
I was reading the hexwraiths today... really the magical attacks just aren’t enough. The hexwraiths even have flaming attacks, so good night Yhetees. The hexwraiths would be a 5+ to hit and wound, but ones that happens. It’s 2W instead of one. The initiative of the yhetees is much better though, so maybe I’m wrong.
I’m just not sure the reasoning is good enough... I admit the alternative isn’t awesome either though. Magic weapons on your characters is limiting in nature as well. But I might be better off making up a semi-killy Bruiser that solo charges. What do you all think about that?

Meaning, when players think about Yhetees, they get hung up on their vulnerabilities (Flammable/no save) and ignore them all together as a viable choice. But when you actually play them, they perform much better than you'd think. They make for excellent flankers as well because of how fast they move. Two units of Yhetees on each of your flanks is going to be concerning for the opponent.
