I had a very strange situation brought about in a previous game owing to a mismatch in base sizes:
A character on a different base size was attached to a unit of Monstrous cavalry. After a series of comical overruns they ended up charging another unit with an enemy unit in their flank arc on the same side as the character.
Due to the huge mismatch in base sizes the enemy unit could see the flank of the next model in line but their front corner was past the back of the characters base, leading to a situation where virtually the entire model was in the flank but would have to charge the second model in the line because they could not turn far enough to touch the side of the characters base. We resolved it as touching the second Monstrous cavalry model in the flank, leading to a strangely positioned combat indeed. I'm still not sure if this was the correct resolution but declaring that he couldn't charge because he couldn't connect to the actual "side" of the unit (the character model) would have been extremely cheesey.
As a bonus question; how do you resolve charges where the last charger is only in corner to corner?
In this scenario 3 enemy units charge a unit of 3 monstrous cavalry models who are already engaged with another one of them. Every model on both sides is the same base size and the middle Monstrous Cav model is lined up perfectly with Enemy Unit 3. Enemy unit 2 and 4 will therefore fill the entire space of the front of the unit leaving no spare frontage. My opponent insisted he could get all 3 charges in because they could fight corner to corner. I was dubious but didn't feel like arguing the point, is there a ruling to point to on this? Can 4-5 individual 50mm frontage units charge a unit with 150mm of frontage? Or is there a clear ruling against a charge that relies on interpreting the corner to corner rules to connect.
