Hey guys, I figured I would start a painting log to motivate myself to pick up the usually glacial pace of my painting efforts. This is the last thing I painted (finished a couple days ago) - a set of Blood Knights for my brother's Vampire Counts army, and I fixed and repainted the broken sword on his Blood Dragon Vampire, which was otherwise not painted by me. The Blood Dragon himself is a classic (6th edition?) sculpt, whereas his retinue are repurposed Blood Knights from AoS getting back to their roots.

Wow. That really shows the difference in scale.
They look awesome though!

Don't feel bad about glacial painting pace haha. I'm with you there.
Unit looks great.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Here's the next round of stuff. Test models for a High Elves army (this time, a project I am working on for myself!). The scheme for the Dragon Princes is meant to be based off of the artwork from their profile page in the army book.
EDIT: I will say that I am not, as it turns out, entirely satisfied with the Dragon Princes - I feel that they could use a little something extra, so to speak, but I can't quite put my finger of what, so if any of the more experienced painters on this forum might be willing to give advice I would appreciate it. Especially hivefleetmanticore.

I actually like where you're going with the Dragon Prince. You've stuck with the two colored pallet really well (something a lot of painters struggle to do!), but in this case, I think you need a third color to set it off. Mostly, because of the black. Black is a very difficult color to use in two-tone schemes since it largely disappears. White can be similar in this regard.
I see that you tried to highlight certain areas with gold, which I applaud, but gold is very close in color to yellow, so it blends in more than highlights. I'd try to lightly drybrush the black areas with a dark gray, heavy on the extreme raised areas, like the wings of the horse's helm. That'll give your black more 3-dimensional pop.
As for a 3rd, alternative color, it doesn't require much, but small lining areas, such as around the armor on the horse's sides, etc. I'd also choose a cool color to have it stand out more, since yellow is a warm color and will contrast more. (Blue, green, purple,...those colors.).
Also, be careful with your washes. You e got some real pooling going on there. Take that same yellow color, and drybrush over it, to lessen the "wash blobs". It'll take a bit of effort with yellow, but that's the quickest fix for that kind of thing.
I know that's a lot, but you're really doing well. Great job on freehanding the dragons! That's something most people don't even attempt! This is merely a critique on how to make it BETTER, not demeaning your current work in any way. I think you've got a lot going for you here and with a little more experience and direction, it'll become great!

Thanks for the advice Mottdon, I appreciate it. I took another crack at a scheme for the Dragon Princes today. I really studied the artwork and decided to try some wet blending to get the effect as close to the art piece as possible. I also used the art as a guide for the freehand on the shield, which I think turned out much better than the first (even in the simplified form I am using).

These are looking awesome! You're using yellow in your colour scheme, which is a fiendishly difficult colour to get right. Often people will use a lighter brown or orange to shade the yellow; here you've gone for a darker colour, which is very brave, but also has the effect of making the figure look more sinister. I like that! And your freehand continues to be great, as usual.

Good paintjobs, I like those Blood Dragons in particular. Poor 6th edition vampire looking like a toddler next to them though...

Thanks guys. Tubis: The Dragon Princes are 3D printed from STL files made by a guy named Ilhadiel. www.myminifactory.com/users/IlhadielHe has models for most of the High Elves units, which is handy because most of this stuff GW doesn't sell anymore! And yeah, I will have to see if I can get a different Vampire Lord for my brother! Ha ha

Here is something that is from a while ago, but I will be posting more models from this project here as time goes on, so I might as well put this here too. It is my Druchii Anointed for a Cult of Slaanesh/Dark Elves project that I will be working on in tandem with my High Elves.
As an aside, if anyone knows of a good set of Cult of Slaanesh rules that would work for 8th edition I would immensely appreciate a link. There seem to be a few out there for 7th edition that update the old Storm of Chaos list, but not much for the latest army books. I am halfway tempted to just keep it simple and do some themed pieces and then just run a standard Dark Elves army. In that case I am not really sure what I would use the Druchii Anointed for (maybe a Master on a Pegasus?).
Additionally, I painted a unit of Daemonettes for this army. I have some unit fillers for this unit I will get around to painting at some point as well.
