I think there's no doubt at all now that we'll be getting Cathay for TOW at some point. And it looks amazing.

would be cute to back-engineer the 8th edition stats/rules from the video game.

I thought they had confirmed Cathay already. Either way, that video was excellent. Iโm still not enthused about daemons in TWW3 (thatโs just me and daemons, I like them less than dark elves ๐) but Iโm very excited about finally being able to play one of the eastern empires!

I'm really excited for Cathay. I feel like I have to save twice as much so I can get Cathay AND Kislev. I really want that dragon lady to be a kit like the new Morathi kit, where you get a human version, and then a dragon. Like, really, really, really want it to be a kit like that. My nephew and I were talking about the units being created for 8th edition and we were wondering if that meant that the Old World was going to be a reworked 8th edition, or if Creative Assembly has just always based TWW units on 8th edition stats.

This is really cool. They state that they created 8th edition stats for Cathay to provide Creative Assembly with...I'm really hoping Old World is more of an 8.5 than a new edition.

Many of the artworks have the "Warhammer: TOW" label on them. There is a big(ish) statement about how all the units have stats and special rules (for 8th edition!) - basically meaning they have a playable armylist for the tabletop game already. So yeah, I take these as pretty big hints, of not blatant confirmation, that Cathay will feature in TOW at some point. It might not be in the first wave - that will hopefully be the "old guard" - but I fully expect a Cathay expansion not too long after the initial release of TOW.
Pretty excited about all this!

I'm pretty disappointed to hear they've been spending time on a new faction when they already have, what fifteen(?) sixteen(?) factions that don't get enough love. Plus it is another human faction. We've already got plenty of human factions: the Empire, Bretonnia, and Dogs of War.
Maybe I'll come around. I don't know.
Edit: We already have four human factions. I forgot about Keslev.

That way, the new game can focus on new factions (and support old armies too).

I should think they chose Cathay with an eye on the giant Chinese market.

I should think they chose Cathay with an eye on the giant Chinese market. Honestly, I don't see why one needs to look beyond TWW3 for an explanation. They needed atleast one more good faction to make the game somewhat balanced with all the evil factions that where a shoe-in for the game. If said faction also happens to be a human empire loosely based on history then all the better to provide some grounding to the more fantastical opposing side. Which other realm than Cathay would make as much sense with this in mind considering the extent of this game and the previous two?

I'm just worried they are spreading themselves too thin by constantly adding new factions to their games. But that is how they have operated for the last thirty years. So who am I to judge.
