I just added a dragon rider to my WFB wood elf army: Another picture here. The dragon is a Nolzur's Marvellous Miniatures Young White Dragon. The rider is the elf dragon master that never looked right on this dragon. The rider's shield is from an old dark elf cold one knight, while the banner was taken from the high elf griffon rider from the Island of Blood set. It was a fun kitbash. That is excellent! I loved the old Nick Bibby 3rd ed Dragon rider kit. Until a few years back, I forgot how the new plastic dragon kit was so similar.

Thank you very much, folks! I just finished up some wood elf archers for my LotR force: These are mostly unreleased figures from the Reaper Bones 5 Kickstarter, but the centre figure is Reaper's Arthrand model. I also finally got to start a kitbashing project that I've been meaning to try for a while: converting witch elves into wardancers: I'm using parts from the Sisters of the Thorn kit for the conversions, mostly. Two down, eight to go.

Thank you, folks! I just finished this Gandalf the White commission for chaosreigns, which gave me both a break from elves and the opportunity to try some new things:

Gandalf is welcome everywhere. There would be no Warhammer without LotR. Looks like the mounted version is 1 piece? My son just painted Eomer and the mounted version was 1 piece. I'd have to say that I like painting the cavalry of WFB as separate riders and mounts. A little more work, but more opportunity to customize.

Gandalf is indeed sculpted on to Shadowfax. I also generally prefer painting riders separately from their mounts, but fortunately this one didn't have too many nooks and crannies to contend with.

More elves this month. I finished the guards of the Galadhrim court for my LotR Lothlorien/Rohan force: These are regular Galadhrim warriors, with their weapons swapped for pikes. I also finished the third of my four seasonal fairies, so here's Summer: This is an out-of-production Bad Fairy from Freebooter Miniatures. That just leaves Spring to do...

Gandalfs look great. The white really brings out the nobility of the model. Great shades with the cloak, beard etc.

Thank you! I felt like I levelled up a little with Gandalf, so that made me happy.

The Galhadrim warriors look suitably noble and arrogant with that paint job

So I recently finished a couple of mini-projects. My seasonal fairies, which I'll be using for markers on the tabletop: Spring is the Reaper Miniatures 14469 Fairy, and for some reason reminds me of Lady Gaga. More pictures here and here. I also painted a couple of wood elves with spears for my LotR army: These are also from Reaper: 03466 Taldalise and 14408 Elf Paladin, with added cloaks made from Green Stuff. And I also finished the last two of my Galadhrim warriors, completing the unit (for the moment, at least):

Last month I painted my character for our Pathfinder campaign, so I give you Brother Ekkehard the Undisciplined, Empty Hand Monk and Cleric of the Six, lover of fine food and drink, and teller of tall tales. "Back when I was in the monastery, before they threw me out..." The figure is Friar Stone from Reaper Miniatures, with a very minor weapon swap. I tried using the 'Eavy Contrast method taught by the marvellous Juan Hidalgo, and although I wouldn't do this with army figures, simply due to the time involved, I'm pleased with how he came out.

Nice work. I want to hear some of his tales! What happened to get him thrown out... this is something I must know!

Nice work. I want to hear some of his tales! What happened to get him thrown out... this is something I must know! Thank you very much! Heh. It involved many years (since joining the monastery as a child oblate) of pointing out the stupidity that he saw his abbot and other monks promoting, especially their insistence on pacifism, which he objected to on the grounds that not learning to defend oneself with whatever came to hand (he specialises in improvised weapons) was a stupid idea. Eventually, things came to a head when he and the party's (female) paladin, who was visiting the monastery, responded to misogyny from the other monks by pelting them with cream buns during dinner. Abbot Ratpert (Ekkehard's chief nemesis) saw this as the final straw and sent Ekkehard on his way. Ekkehard has been much happier ever since, though his quest for decent cream buns continues... The character was inspired by Friar Tuck and this historical account.
