Since I'm working on improving my scenery, I figured it was time to have a thread for it, plus any other random models that don't really fit into my other armies' threads. Elven Waystone - this was a random model ordered from Ebay years ago, which I stuck on some plasticard with some rocks and a tree branch. I've redone the base on it this last week; the waystone/rocks were painted years ago. The waystone is a very basic sculpt - not much more than a chunk of resin, and not one I'd buy again, but it looks okay. Walls - from TinyWorlds Ebay shop. Also rebased recently. I like these: Deathknell Watch - so this was painted a few years ago as part of my Warhammer Fortress. There's a reason it doesn't have the steps up the outside - it's an "extension" to my Fortress. I really need to take photos of the whole thing, but it's obviously big, and not easy to photograph. Anyway, Deathknell Watch itself is clearly painted to a very basic standard, but I added a few details to it this last week, so it's not all grey stone: "The Tree of Woe" - an old Battlefield in a Box model; it came pre-painted. I recently completely re-did the basing on it, and added the ivy: I'm currently finishing off redoing my two Citadel Woods, which I'll have photos of this weekend.

How do you get he edges of the stones and rocks to look like that? Do you paint a light color on the edges or is it some kind of wash on the flat surfaces to darken them?

Drybrushing - it's the best way to do buildings and rocks. My usual recipe is to paint the stones/rocks Mechanicus Standard Grey, wash them with Nuln Oil (occasionally some Agrax Earthshade too), and then drybrush with lighter greys. If you want to do it quickly, just pick one lightish grey (e.g. Ulthuan Grey) and keep the drybrush light. If you want to spend a bit more time on it, you can "work up" through 2-3 progressively lighter shades of grey, making sure your drybrushing is more sparse each time. A pale bone colour such as Screaming Skull also works well for drybrushing rocks (and it ties in with the drybrush I use on the sanded bases).

More scenery - first off, this bridge. It's made from the Hobbit Goblin Town scenery kit, and I stole the idea from the old Games Workshop Oxford Street store. Theirs was better, as they had it permanently fixed to a display board with a river underneath, and they modeled a River Troll emerging from the water under the bridge. Since mine isn't fixed down to anything, I couldn't steal that part of the idea: Dreadstone Blight - I didn't use fancy colours for the magic wheel inside, hence no internals photo: Eternity Stair: And a couple of Citadel Woods, completely repainted from how I had them before. Now with foliage too:

I bet the foliage stays on a damn side better than the standard ‘leaves’

I bet the foliage stays on a damn side better than the standard ‘leaves’ Oh my gosh, THIS! I hate the Citadel Woods Leaves. The slightest breeze (pun intended) and they fall right off! Besides, your foliage looks way cooler, sedge! Great work! (I'm jealous of your Eternity Stair. 😏

Cool projects. Where'd you get the vortex and the portal?

Thanks! They're Arcane Fulcrums from back when Games Workshop released Storm of Magic in 2011. They did have them available still after AoS for a few years, but it looks like they're gone from the webstore.

And where did you get the hills/lake?

Kallistra - they're along the back wall at Salute, they've been there each year I've gone: www.kallistra.co.uk/?page=14They do flocked ones and plain ones. I got the flocked ones a few years ago then recently wanted to redo them to match the mat I got from Deep Cut Studio, so stripped them back to the plastic before starting over. The flocked ones are perfectly decent though, and work well with a green grass mat. The blue water is plain, but it does the job.

These are kind of here as photos of my fortress, and also to show off the battle I had today - a relaxed Dark Elf siege of an Undead castle: Surrounded! This can't end well... Clearing the walls: Duel for the gatehouse: It was a fun game, but the Vampire Counts magic was atrocious - despite having two level 4s, and plentiful power dice, they cast their first (and only) spell in turn 3, by which point my Dark Elves already had most of the castle. The forces may have been a little unbalanced. We're having a reverse rematch in January, with me holding the castle with my Dark Elves this time, and the Undead getting reinforced by lots of gribbly monsters to take the castle back.

The Siege pictures look great. But what rules do you use? I remember not being very impressed with the 5th edition Siege rules and I don't think they have been updated since then. I recall the lack of static combat resolution made combat characters (think Chaos Lord of Khorne) all but unstoppable. They could single handedly clean the entire enemy army off the battlements.
