Thanks, guys! Honestly, I feel rather bad when I play with them! I haven't lost with them yet! Now, I certainly don't play every weekend and I have 6 armies that I rotate through, but every time I play them, it usually ends up in a massacre. That's probably because my opponents usually like to play "smash mouth" style of games and that's not WE at all, so it throws them for a loop, but it also says about the ability WE have in dealing with those style armies. "Catch me if you can!" tatics may not be the most fun style of play to face, but it certainly keeps you on your toes. Every time I put them on the table, my opponents usually groan. One thing about the way I play though, I NEVER take the same list twice. You never really know what you're going to get with me. One game I may bring an all shooty list, one an extremely fast and mobile list, another an all tree list. That really changes it up for me and keeps it fresh for my opponents. I also like exploring the different strategies and styles of play. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes not. But with my WE, it usually does.

One of my Glade Guard units. As you can see, I still have a little work left to do on them...

Also, the last 2 pics - are those 2 different units of Glade Guard? Or the same unit in different lighting?

Alright Don, I have a comment on your basing. In the instances where you are just gluing down ballast/fine gravel, do you find that it flakes off a lot? Back in the day i based my space marines the same way and I had a huge flaking problem...plus they never quite looked done. I could see the base color of the plastic base through gaps in the ballast. Then a guy at a game shop encouraged me to paint the ballast and then drybrush it. I've never looked back since that first time. I see you also use the texture paints for your basing but for the gravely ones...I bet you see some flaking off.

Thanks for your comments, guys!
@wilsonthearc: Send them to me brother! Of course, I still have only finished about half of mine so far... As for the Glad Guard, yeah, it's the same unit but for some reason the lighting turned out differently. Go figure. I took these out in my Studio (a little 12' x 12' building in my back yard where I can craft) and it has a lot of natural lighting that comes in the windows, but I had several pictures that turned out this way. They were all taken at the same time too. Huh.
@rick: (Thanks for changing your name from jerkface. I felt so bad calling you that!) I'm glad you like the tentacles! It was a fun, silly project. As far as basing goes, I hate it. BUUUUUT, it does really take a model to the next level. If I'm doing something like ranks and ranks of infantry, the Agrellian (sp?) Earth is a quick fix and can easily be dressed up with a tuft or two of grass. Done.
The ballast you inquire about though has a much better look IMO. What I have come to do with it (and I still need to do with these WE) is to take a model before I paint the base (sometimes before I glue the model to it, sometimes after, depending on the size of the base and how difficult it will be to get a paint brush under the model) I glue the ballast down with a thick coating of PVC (Elmers) glue. I usually let that sit for about a day before I do anything else to it (this is also why I usually have several projects going at one time). Once that is dry, I like to use Rhinox Hide to base coat the entire thing. It is a deep brown but still very discernible from the black base. It gives it a good "earthy" feel to it. After that dries, I drybrush the top of the ballast with something lighter like Baneblade Brown. I like how that turns out. The finishing touch is usually to draw a few lines across the top with the PVC glue and then add the grass (or whatever you want) flocking to that. Make sure you pile it on and then turn the base up on it's side and tap and blow any excess off. Let that sit for another day before messing with it too much.
As to your question of it flaking off, no, I've never really had a problem with that. I mean, sure I get a few random rocks here and there, but nothing major. The only time I've come across that was when a chunk came off of a corner of a model, but it was all one piece and the PVC glue had formed a nice flat base to it so I simply super-glued it back down.
Things I might suggest are: 1. Check the glue you are using. It needs to be thick and coat the base well. 2. Give it ample time to dry fully. A good slow-drying glue (like PVC glue) will give you ample time to apply the ballast to the surface and settle into the glue before it's dry.
Something else I noticed about your Sigmarines is that you are using cork for your rocks. Have you tried using pine bark? That's what I use and it works awesome You don't get that flat side from the cork. We have some in our flower beds at my house and I just every now and then, go out there and pick up some pieces and let them sit on my desk for a few days to fully dry out, then base coat them a dark grey and drybrush with a lighter grey. Boom! Natural rock outcrop! It also creates some recesses and cavities for tufts of grass, spiders, little nasites to be hiding in... Cool stuff. You can go to just about any park and find some somewhere. If nothing else, you can always go raid a tree.
Hope that helps! Man! you guys have me wanting to work on my WE again, but Lizardmen are the current flavor of the day!

As a Wood Elf, your agenda of Pine Tree abuse and de-barking seems decidedly un-Elfy.
