Hello there! First time here and very glad to have discovered this forum. A good friend and I are returning to 8ed (official ruleset + End Times) and I'm facing a very strong Skaven army which in past times never managed to win, too many hordes, engineers, and slingshots paired with strong monsters. Since I have improved my roster thanks to Cities of Sigmar I thought I could do a HotEK army list since I love the concept.
-Lords-Archmage-240 ⦁ Lore of High Magic ⦁ Book of Hoeth
-Heroes-Sorceress -105 ⦁ Lore of Dark Magic ⦁ Dispel Scroll +25 Master - 99 ⦁ BSB ⦁ Heavy Armour
-Core-Darkshards x10 -150 ⦁ Command Group +30 Darkshards x10 -150 ⦁ Command Group +30 Dark Riders x5 -100 ⦁ Repeater Crossbow ⦁ Shields Dark Riders x5 -100 ⦁ Repeater Crossbow ⦁ Shields
-Special-Swordmasters x25 -405 ⦁ Command Group +30 ⦁ Banner of the World Dragon +50 Phoenix Guard x15 -195 ⦁ Musician and Standard +20 War Hydra -160 Shadow Warriors x5 -70
-Rare-Frostheart Phoenix -225
The idea with this army is simple, strong magical presence thanks to the heroes, elite infantry and a couple monster as threats and a bit of shooting to soft them up and two units of cavalry for mobility, should have all bases covered. It's been years since I played WFB so I would greatly appreciate any feedback, help or pointing out any error I may have made. Thanks in advance!

I’ll admit to not having any experience with the combined elf lists but I have played/faced HE’s/DE’s and Skaven and my first though is, unless you are deliberately going for an MSU approach (which is fine if you are, it can be very rewarding but has a higher margin for error), your elite units are probably too small, especially if facing the masses ranks of Skaven. Executioners and White Lions aren’t dissimilar so you are probably better off dropping one of those units to boost the size of the others.

Your help is greatly appreciated.
I was indeed trying for an MSU approach since I remembered that big units (like spearmen) were prone to die by mass fire and eventually fail a LD check or worse against Skaven but it's true that big units benefit more from buffs and the such. But you are right that Executioners and WL are very similar and may benefit more from being a big unit so I will cast aside the executioners and bolster the WL unit.
Btw I will update the thread when we get to play (in a week or two) and tell you how it went for those interested
Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum! Though I would advise you change your profile picture, or else beastyboy might have an identity crisis Regarding your list, I personally like seeing the MSU approach being used in an elite army like Elves - none of that horde nonsense in an army that wouldn't fight in dirty great masses of 30+ anyway - but the first thing I would say is "Where are the flaming attacks?"! Your Skaven-fielding opponent is extremely likely to field at least one Hell Pit Abomination, which will steamroller over pretty much anything you can field in close combat without some Flaming Attacks to deny it its Regeneration save. I would suggest a spellcaster with the Lore of Fire, one of your elite units taking the Banner of Eternal Flame, a Dragon or replacing your Frostheart with a Flamespyre for this. Indeed replacing the Sorceress and the Frostheart with a Dragon Mage would tick three of those boxes in one while not affecting your points total too much. Additionally, knoffles is correct in that taking Executioners is pretty pointless given White Lions do the same job, and vice versa - it'd be far better to choose just one Strength 6 unit and spend the points from the other one either on another unit or expanding the first one. Additionally, I wouldn't rate White Lions or Executioners against Skaven - these units are designed to crack open smaller units of heavily-armoured elite infantry, which Skaven have none of. You'd be far better off spending the points on Swordmasters, who pack an extra attack each at a Strength that's still enough to butcher anything Skaven can field, so you can carve your way through those hordes your opponent is so keen to bring. Also I would give the Banner of the World Dragon to them to protect them against nasty Skaven magic, against which they would normally die like flies with only T3 and a 5+ armour save. Your Phoenix Guard on the other hand have a 4+ Ward Save against everything so don't need the Banner nearly as much. Finally, because Skaven like War Machines so much, you need something that can infiltrate the rear ranks and take them out before they blast too much of your army to bits - while your flying monster, whichever you pick, could be pressed into this role, I also would recommend including a unit of Shadow Warriors so that if your monster dies from a Warp Lightning Cannon shot in the first turn, they can still arrive on the board in Turn 2 to neutralise any artillery before the rest of your army follows in similarly short order. Hope that helps, and I look forward to hearing about the outcome!

I consider Reavers/Dark riders are much better than Silverhelms (if we take them in units of 5). - Cavalry in 8th ed is not so good. Both of them (Silvers and Reavers) play the same role, and they will die quite easy, but reavers are much cheaper in points. If you want strong cav - you should take "Cav boeing" (12 or so Silvers + combat kitted Lord&Heroes), but it's too different list.
Also MSU elf-things (10 of Witches/Swordmasters/etc) will be pretty good, but you need atleast one big unit anyway. Phoenix is too pricey, then take Swordmasters/edit: WhiteLions (25 or so with Lords/Heroes)+ Dragonbanner.
Also command group isn't mandatory for all units. It's good to have in important units (especially with lords&heroes).
Sisters of avelorn will be great against Aboma (it's just 70points!).
And of course you should (must) take the BSB. We want stability.
So skimp some points, take some necessary upgrades (breath weapon for hydra for example).
I hope it helps. Have fun.

I disagree that Silver Helms and Ellyrian Reavers play the same role, Silver Helms are Knights for all intents and purposes and deliver a stronger charge while being better armoured with that mighty 2+ save all knight units have. Even a unit of 5 could still easily hold a unit of Clanrats for a couple of turns in melee and will kill a few of them as well, particularly on the charge, though a smaller unit would be best for hitting the flank of the Skaven unit while a bigger infantry unit hits the same unit in the front, which should be enough to win the combat and cause a rout. Ellyrian Reavers and Dark Riders on the other hand have very little charge bonus if any and are far more likely to die in combat, and certainly are little use in helping you to win a melee, but their main role is as Fast Cavalry for being annoying and staying out of combat to pepper the enemy with missiles, running away if the Skaven unit tries to charge them, which actually is useful against Skaven given they have no cavalry, Rat Ogres are rarely seen and are easily baited anyway, Hell Pits have Random Movement and Stormfiends are expensive but not well-armoured so will get annoyed at you shooting at them and want to charge you, allowing you to bait them.

lordofskullpass there are some about the Reavers/Helms. They both are ok against the same chaff units or as redirectors (or as flank-charge of course, you are right). They are not so good to hold. They will die against clanrats just as a result of static CR, innit?

Thanks everyone for their input! I'm learning a lot.
I have no flaming attacks because I know for a fact that I won't be facing a Hellpit Abomination since he doesn't have one, he is more fan of Rat Ogres. I think there is no need for the Sisters or the dragon....yet!
I will swap the White Lions for Swordmasters and make it a big unit with the World Dragon Banner, I will also bring Reavers/Dark Riders instead of Silver helms and I'll try to include a Shadow Warrior unit and possibly a few upgrades like the BSB or the flaming breath.
I'll try to update the list as soon as I'm able.
Cheers!

Sorry for double posting!
I wanted to let you know I have updated the list on the original post and explain my reasons why.
I added a Master with BSB like recommended in order to have more stability, wish I could have geared him but the only thing I could skimp are the musician and the standard from the Phoenix Guard. Would it be worth? I replaced the Silver Helms with Dark Riders, the reason they have repeaters crossbows and shield are to hit the minimum core (500pts exactly), I will use them to harass and flank if possible. This also saved me some points in comparison to Silver Helms. Like I was told I replaced the White Lions with a big unit of Swordmasters and moved the Banner of the World Dragon there and also managed to sneak in a unit of Shadow Warriors to hunt war machines like suggested.
Thanks for all the tips and hope the list has improved this way.
Looking forward to further discussion ^^

I’m not sure if you have access to them in this list, but if you have the option, take DE shades over shadow warriors as you can give them additional hand weapons or great weapons, so they are far more versatile. If you can’t take them, then completely ignore this comment 😂. (I’m sure I mentioned that I’m lacking knowledge on the ET combined elf lists).
I’d be tempted to drop the Swordmaster champion to give the master a sea dragon cloak and perhaps a great weapon or an enchanted shield (I can’t remember the points for the cloak/weapon so not sure what you could fit). It will just make him much less squishy .
Apart from that, I think the list looks a lot better and I think will be fun to play.
