Hi All, I just wondered what people are using to run campaigns? I've seen a few ideas around, but never actually used any of them - so much so that i've created my own purpose-built excel-based software to run an 8th edition campaign: Campaign ManagerHas anyone tried Mighty Empires? Or blood in the badlands? Is there a more in-depth piece of software that's available to generate campaign scenarios? Looking for something for a small (probably 4-player tops) campaign - mine works well but probably will get tired easily as the map is fixed

My group played the General's Compendium Boarder princes campaign several times. I even made a program to generate maps for each phase of the turn.It is a good but not perfect campaign system. Some players got discouraged when some realms started to grow larger than others. Also depending on starting positions and campaign progress, you might only ever have battles with one or two other players/races. ie. If you don't know how to defeat Vampire Counts, it might not be fun to have them as your immediate neighbors. But over all I think it is a good system. It isn't too complex. Back in 5th edition we tried the original Mighty Empires campaign system twice. It didn't work because attacking cities required siege battles. And the rules for siege battles were not balanced. A mega combat character (my favorite Chaos Lord with mark of Khorne) totally dominated combat on the fortress ramparts because of the lack of static combat resolution and no flanking etc. I think the Blood in the Badlands siege rules are better. But haven't gotten to try them out.

In my group we used Mighty Empires with 8th edition some 8+ years ago. Worked pretty good as far as I remember.

Ok, one vote for mighty empires and one against. What's Generals Compendium? I've not heard of that one- is it an official supplement? I'm also interested in what you all think are the best siege rules

For siege, you can use the 5th edition Siege book almost as is. The Dark Tidings rules provides some updates in there.

KevinC as much as your suggestion is a good one, there's no need to use a 5th Edition supplement when siege rules, alongside a campaign system, were included in Blood in the Badlands, an 8th Edition book released in December 2011. /pic1212886.jpg) My dream is to one day run a Blood in the Badlands campaign, I have the book and there are computer-based alternatives to Mighty Empires...

However, I absolutely love the 5E Siege book/rules...so I usually use those. However, I've played several siege games with the Blood and the Badlands and they do work well.

When it comes to campaigns, I like extremely details rules with a lot of book keeping and such. So first edition mighty empires, and rules where you must keep track of stuff, make recovery rolls, etc. are what I like best.

I can see why you'd prefer 1st over 2nd edition. We were a somewhat competitive bunch of players who really just wanted a system to connect the battles a bit. For this the 2nd edition was good. Although I see Mighty Empires more as a toolbox where you can use as much or little of it as you want.
