Oi!
So, I am working on "refurbishing" the used stuff I have and it is essentially:
30 Night Goblins 1 NG Bigboss 1 NG BSB 1 NG Shaman
10 Spider Riders - possibly an 11th that could be a Bigboss or Shaman
10-12 Black Orcs*
15-17 Orc Boyz
1 Orc on Boar, Bigboss, Warboss? 1 Orc BSB
4 Squigs a couple of handlers
I really lack Boyz. I like the models and I want many.. So that is kinda the focus to get more of. I have 13 or so spear arms.. And i REALLY like the look of boyz with spears so I will probably model as manya s I can with that. Later, I want a unit with two choppas and one with choppa and shield if I can. And Arrer Boyz (I need some for Mordheim too so)
I guess I need to get 3 fanatics and more NGs (I have 10-20 more badly painted I can strip actually). Then flesh out what I have.
One idea is to trade in some aircraft models I have and will not build anytime soon in a local store. I can then use that cred to get something like 2 boxes of Squig Herds and a box of 40k Orks, the older boyz. Those bodies I can mix in nicely. I just need more spears. Two small units seems stupid (I mean making one with 2 choppas as I have no more spears) Maybe a box of that Gloomspite gitz starter, with 10 squigs, the Bigboss and three stone trolls - plus the 40k boyz? Start smaller with the sguigs but get some trolls..
What would you do for 500p, 750p, 1000p with this? Maybe with a couple extra boyz (a unit of 25)?
I can get a box of Black orcs and I like the models, I just feel they are better for later, get some decent core, start playings small..
I of course want Boar Boyz, Boar Chariots, artillery.. I just have to start tracking down some 2nd hand shit - but right now, I need to start getting paint at what I have....
Maybe 30 Ngs, full command, 3 fanatics and those three NG heroes.. As many boyz as i can make! Spider Riders.. Add squigs and trolls and start getting annihilated so I see what i need to add?  |

Curious about those already painted NGs.. I had another 19.. Just popped them into som IPA (the alchol, not ale! ). I have spear arms for those too, as well as shields, i hope. So 49 potentially, instead. Much better, right? |

For striping paint on plastic, I use castrol super clean. For building up your greenskins, I recommend working unit by unit. So work on the night goblin unit until they are done. Only then do you allow yourself to switch to Orc boys, or whatever. Yea it can become a slog. But it is better then having five half painted units. |

Yeah they are. IPA works fine for me, even makes plastic glue a little brittle so I can often break those bonds. Unless it is like the legs to torso on boyz with loads of glue.. haven´t had it melt this kind of GW plastics but I once melted a full TBR01 squad of Beakiez, oops. But that was acetone iirc.... I used IPA on the other stuff and brushed it with a toothbrush. And if they melt, it´s ok - it´s just Goblins.. yeha, great idea. Looking forward to 49 NGs.. Not. hehe.. Well, then i can reward myself with the Orcs with spears. And hopefully have found some more! But it is kinda nice to know what I am working towards.. I am much more of an Orc dude than Goblins.. So the NGs is.. Some shit I need. I need to look forward to what the Waaagh will have as I burn, pillage, ra... No, not that! My way through the Empire. |

But those with spears will probably be Big ´uns until that - bad idea? There is nothing wrong with arming your Orcs with spears. It really depends on your playstyle and personal preference. For me ideally I like to have a whole unit painted for every main equipment load out. For Orc boyz that is: - Choppa & shield
- Spear & shield
- Two Choppas
But this quickly gets to the realm of impractical. ie. I will never have all twenty unit loadouts for Chaos Warriors (sword+shield, 2-hand-weapons, hailbard, great weapon) * (undivided, Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, Slaanesh).

Hehe, yeah. But I totally agree on that for Orcs. I like the look of it and an Orc heavy force would look better and feel more interesting to me. Heck, I don´t mind those from the starter 6th Ed box swinging their choppas. And I like those Arrer Boyz too. For the spears - I cannot put my finger on it, but it looks so right to me. I especially like spear arm where the orc has the shaft in his armpit. And then along with those funny Brian Nelson "medieval" heads. Like the "bad moon" hat and the others... Ah... That´s WFB at its best for me.. |

I have a unit of Orc Boyz, which I mostly gave two hand weapons - it's typically regarded as the "best" loadout, but I gave a few of them spears as well - like you, I felt they looked cool, especially the one you mentioned with the shaft in his armpit.
There's nothing wrong with having a few models within the unit armed with different weaponry, so long as the majority have the right loadout, so your opponent can tell what they are. These are unruly Orcs after all, and no matter how much their Boss krumps 'em, if one of the Boyz wants a stabba, he's gonna carry a stabba.

Thanks. Yeah, i thought about that - adding ina few boyz at the back with other stuff.. But I´ll see what other models I can pick up.. I kinda would like to have all with spears. But it is a reserve plan.  Kinda started to think about splitting the NGs.. Into 30 with spears and 20 with short bows.. Just to have two units.. Should work in smaller games? Maybe.. And then i can just add another box to the spears? My head is still more into 6th Ed though, where i feel that works less bad..
Though I might pick up another box shortly along with three stone trolls or whatever they are called now..

Rigth, I ordered a Start Collecting Gloomspite Gitz and another box of Squig Herd.. So I´ll have a little army soon! Just putting up kinda what I have (I´ll save 10 or so, spare NGs for later - I need the bases and I need a few as handlers for the squigs!) it´will probably suck but it will get me to play! There´s shit like the Spider Riders that aren´t great that way - but i have them, I will paint them like that. Might as well get them in and since it comes out at 1200p - why not? I´ll get smashed, it´s fine. I want to go in, have some fun, - see the green-red-blue "horde" throw some magic around.. But what do you think? |

Cool. Then I just go ahead with it!  I have to konvert an Orc musician but that is pretty easy, i have some Black Orc bitz.. And then make three boyz with 2 choppas to be at the back - "-When a boy with a spear dies, you pick up the spear.." I´m hyped though! Started to clean up my squigs I already have... Gotta love those! |

Stripping those six Squigs now gives me 30.. And breaking up the Spider Riders into 5x2 (without command - but i will paint that up) i can push the stuff to 1250p..
Oh, the Orc Bigboss gets a flatulent pig and some more shiny fingz.. Mainly becuase I like that model..!

I´m retarded.. or not a great thinkiner, more ham-fisted than brains.. But i realized that Orc Shamen have the big Whaagh.. i thought it was just Lord level characters.. Was that 6th Ed? So - I started to konvert an Orc Shaman. As well as a another standard bearer so that BSB - can be a BSB.. Some changes.. |
