Additional teams and league rules a version of which can be found online. You can definitely play with just the basic box.
Played my first game in 20 years I think just awesome fun. Found another league player so if anyone else in the ROC wants to play let me know.

Dan - pretty much, yes. You can play with what's in the $100 boxed set. The $25 book (Death Zone) is required reading and material if you want to use advanced rules or play in a league. www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Death-Zone-Season-One-ENGThe reasons I bought Death Zone: 1). Updated Skills List - - - the basic rulebook is mighty slim in this department2). Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Cheerleaders and Apothecaries ; a must for league play IMHO3). Official Skaven Team Rules, Stats & Points 4). Official #s for Experience Points for Players All four are quite similar to the previous/existing Blood Bowl rules. #3 and #4 represent slight changes; I just wanted to have the official stuff. You can borrow mine if you like. It really isn't worth $25.

Gary, I haven't purchased the starter yet or anything. I do really like the look of the skaven team. In general I really try hard not to get into many games simply because of time. I already own so much unpainted stuff and only end up playing 8th a few times a year so when I find the time I typically prefer to choose painting/playing 8th as opposed to whatever else. I am still on the fence though. May end up picking it up some time. I got one of the computer blood bowl games roughly 6 years ago and had an awesome time playing that for several months. And I know I would enjoy a table top mini game even better than a video game. So again, still pondering it.

Danny if you have the urge we will take you as a "friendly" not committed to the league play with a borrowed team (one of my 2). If you decide to go further 12 models to paint is low investment. Can convert your unpainted existing toys.

Hey All. I have been busy painting 3 Blood Bowl Teams. First up, here are my humans: "The Antgard Almost Vikings". Purple!

Look cool. Is that an ogre in the background?

Yes, that is an Ogre! Human Teams in Blood Bowl can have up to 1 Ogre on the team. Kinda like how in 4th Edition WFB an Empire army had Ogres as a unit in the main army listing.

Looks good. How come four guys have balls though? Is there more than one ball on the pitch at a time?

Wow nice job man. It's just modeling. The balls you use in the game are seperate but the throwers and catchers come with balls as part of the model.

Alternative Answer: four team members each have a ball because I am the cheatiest cheat that ever cheated. I paid a local wandering wizard to cast an enchantment spell that makes it look like four different players have the ball, while in reality only one of them has the real ball that really counts. This makes my opponent face 75% chance of smashing the wrong dude, while the true ball carrier skampers quickly out of range.

Skittering Skavens!!! They can only win when they have 20+ rats on the pitch at once. This team has played 3.5 games and have TURRBULL success rate with passing the ball, but... a really good hit rate with block dice, fouling, and breaking armor in general. Even on armor 9 Orcs!
