Hi all, I've decided to try and create a thread to bring all my painting images together. I've got 2 armies I collect- Dwarfs and Empire. My Dwarfs I'm further along with but will post about those on another thread.
This one is specifically to show off my Averland- themed Empire units. I chose Averland (black & yellow) as the colourscheme for 2 reasons:
1) I've painted a fair few of them before in this scheme (about 20 years ago mind!)
2) I just love the yellow-on-black contrast you get, even if its a pig to paint!
To achieve the colour, I undercoat black and paint about 3 or 4 coats of yellow over the top where applicable.
First up, my Greatswords. I only have 16 painted atm, but I have 60 of these in total making for 1 large horde, or 2 smaller 30-man units including full command.
The models are from eBay- search 'Highland Miniatures'. They're resin models & look stunning, but be aware if you buy any that they are VERY brittle. Drop one on the floor & be prepared to pick up about 6 shards! But they do look great!
Next, 10 spearmen I have painted. Also Highland Miniatures, but frustratingly I missed that they're 32mm scale, not 28mm scale (GW size), so they're a pinch bigger than all my other models. It's not a huge difference, and you can get away with it, but because I'll be switching to Halberdiers which make much more sense, rather than spearmen anyway, I'll probably not paint anymore of these for a 'very' long time!
Now some handgunners - 8 of them. Quite old Games Workshop models these, but still look reasonable. Also annoying is the fact I have about 50 of these, and not a single crossbowman, but I'm nearly always using crossbows!! Nevermind đ
Next up a cannon- love the model but don't have any crew painted up yet! The tray was an eBay purchase:
Finally, in terms of current finished models, an Empire 'Captasus' (Captain on Pegasus). Yes I know he's a Bretonion model strictly speaking, but they pretty much look the same
That's it for now!, hope you enjoyed checking them out. I'm part way through a Steam Tank which will look cool... more updates to follow!
