Hello EEFLers!
I have managed to complete the first draft for another army list, to effectively complete an 'Albion trilogy' of faction rulesets to fully capture all of the warring powers on the Misty Isle. This time, it is the Fimir, that race of Warhammer legend past to be ditched by GW because of certain *issues* with their lore, to get their time in the sun (though don't tell them I told you that, they hate the sun)!
The bogs and swamps of the Old World and Albion have long been feared by their inhabitants for good reason, with pools that can suck a man to his death in scant minutes, biting insects that spread lethal diseases, and bands of marauding Orcs and Goblins lurking in copses and tall grass, yet they pale in the face of the real rulers of the Swamps - the Fimir. An ancient creation of the Chaos Gods, the Fimir as a race came into being long before the first humans swore allegiance to those four wicked deities, or the first Beastmen were mutated from Chaos energy. Whether they were servants of the Old Ones twisted to serve the Chaos Gods or elementals born of the fens has long been forgotten. For a long time they alone enjoyed the Dark Gods' favour, but the destruction of the Polar Gates soon changed that. With the emergence of Daemons, Beastmen and cults of Chaos-worshipping men, the Dark Gods' eyes were turned away from the Fimir, and the swamp-lords were abandoned. With their religion in decline, the Fimir lost all interest in the outside world, conjuring dark, roiling mists to dissuade outsiders from entering their homelands and only emerging occasionally to raid for plunder and slaves, relegating them to folkloric swamp monsters that parents used to scared their children abed. Yet the Mearghs and Balefiends foresaw the rise of a great being that would come to be named Balor by the swamp-dwellers, and his once-mortal wife Maris, both of whom promised the Fimir race a chance of redemption. With the great Eye of their new god ever watching and guiding them, sightings of Fimir have become more prevalent once more, as their High King leads a renewed campaign of vengeance, both against the legions of the Dark Gods for their deities' betrayal, and the human civilisations who tempted the Dark Gods away from them. Wicked sorcerers utilise their command of the Fimir's sacred mist to befuddle and trap the enemy, creatures of the swamp lurch into the fray to tear the foe asunder or drain them of their blood, and the very ground turns to a cloying quagmire as the amphibian hosts seek to claim the whole world for their barbaric race.
Of course, we already have KevinC 's Fimir 'Allied Contingent' list, but why should this cult-following faction just be an undersized force that can only be drafted in as allies, when it can instead be a fully-fledged army of its own? This list has taken inspiration from said Allied Contingent list, alongside the recently-released Kruleboyz range (which should have been Fimir any day of the week, and could be converted to be such pretty easily), an issue of the WHFRP magazine Warpstone, and the retro 90s-style models produced by Krakon Games, to form my own take upon the Fimir race and all the beasts, monsters and weapons of war they can field. As with all my other Warhammer army lists, I have aimed to keep this one as balanced as possible, but the whole point of this first draft is to gain feedback from theoryhammerers and playtesters alike, so I'd love for as many of you to have a butcher's at it, and even have a game with it if you wish, as possible, and any constructive feedback would be much appreciated!
To get started, knoffles hivefleetmanticore chaosreigns admiral imrillion KevinC grandmasterwang strutsagget you have all taken great and commendable interest in my work before, and I notice wilsonthenarc and Naitsabes were particular fans of the Allied Contingent list, so I'd love to know what you all think of this list, and to tag anyone else who you'd think would be interested in this!
