Hey all,
The event I went to was awesome! Great venue, atmosphere and people!
I ended up playing 3 games and won all 3! I will give a brief report here on each game.
Game 1 - Empire 2400 points.
List was something like:
Level 4 life wizard
Arch lector general
Captain BSB
Engineer
40 halberds in horde (general and BSB)
10 handgunners (detachment)
10 inner circle knights
30 greatswords
5 pistoliers
5 outriders
1 cannon
2 HBVG
1 steam tank
Now the games have tweaked rules for the event but it was basically breaking point and the deployment was the narrow one from the long end to the other. So good for empire!
Turn 1:
I got first turn and marched everything up field, I declared a charge with my skullcrushers into his pistoliers who elected to flee. I positioned both chimera on the flank with my sorcerer Lord between them. And made one chimera be in range of his knights, but in a way that would force them off field should they overrun.
Magic phase I 6 diced boosted searing doom into his knights, which he dispell scrolled. Which was my plan all along
Nothing else got off.
Turn 1 empire:
He charges my chimera with knights, moves his outriders to block my khorne warriors and moves his STank slightly. Fails to rally pistoliers, even with the muso!
Magic phase I let him cast flesh to stone on his outriders and stop dwellers.
Shooting phase, he lines up my chimera and Lord with Stank cannon, hits both! But I pass my regen save. His other cannon misfires and blows up! But a HBVG kills the lucky chimera. The other is just out of range of my skullcrushers.
Combat was actually closer than I thought with some bad rolls from the knights and great saves from me, but I lose to combat rez and flee, he chases down the chimera and off the board as planned.
Turn 2 chaos:
I charge khorne warriors into outriders, who elected to stand and shoot. March tzeentch warriors towards his lines and skull crushers March towards to HBVG. I love my sorcerer Lord over to his flank but behind a building enough to get hard cover.
Magic phase, I cast boosted version searing doom onto STank. I rolled an 11 for the hits, but I rolled too many ones but took 8 wounds of it. I miscast as a result but just lose my dice and cop a Str 6 hit which I save.
Combat sees my khorne unit decimate the outriders and overrun up the board.
Empire turn 2:
With the STank so low on wounds my opponent decides to charge it into my khorne unit flank. Knights come back on. Some slight shuffling of halberds.
Magic phase he casts flesh to stone on the greatswords who are baby sitting the HBVG in front of my juggs. And I deny the other, can't remember!
Shooting phase. Things start to go wrong, the HBVG with no engineer that is aiming at my juggs misfires so only gets 4 shots! The other one gets 20 into my sorcerer Lord but with hard cover and tzeentch trickery I take no damage! His handgunners defy the odds and kill a skullcrusher!
Combat phase. His STank kills about 6 warriors all up and receives no damage in return, I lose frenzy but then remembered my Frenzy banner!! I stay there with the STank in my flank. Failed the reform.
Turn 3 chaos:
I charge both his HBVG and great swords with skullcrushers. Move my Lord back to where he was before gaining cover from a forest and move the tzeentch warriors closer to his lines but had to go around the STank.
Magic phase. I boosted searing doom into his knights, killing 7 out of the 10. My opponent failed to dispel and remaining dice I put blades of aiben on khorne unit.
Combat phase. The STank fluffs his rolls and only kills 4 more khorne warriors, I manage another wound! My skullcrushers easily destroy the HBVG and kill a rank of Greatswords. I take some wounds back but win combat, and the GS stay.
Empire turn 3:
His remaining knights charge into my khorne flank hoping to sandwich them.
Magic phase. I stop flesh to stone on greatswords but he heals up some more.
Shooting phase, his handgunners shoot the tzeentch warriors and kill one. His last HBVG shoots at my Lord with hard cover, finally does a wound after all the tzeentch trickery!
Combat phase. His STank blows up!! Misfire from the steam engine. Which freed up my khorne warriors and did practically no damage to both my warrior blocks. The knights were in trouble but it turned into a pillow fight with bad dice rolls on both sides. The knights stay, but I reform to face them.
Skullcrushers slowly grinding away GS unit.
Chaos turn 4:
I charge Tzeentch unit into handgunners, move my Lord to still benefit from hard cover from the HBVG.
Magic, I cast blades of aiben on khorne unit and try to cast final transmutation but he stops it.
Combat. I kill of his knights turn to face halberds. My tzeentch warriors roll poorly and only kill 7 out of 10 handgunners! I was hoping for the overrun to not have my flank exposed to his halberd horde. Juggs are now down to the champ but still winning combat against GS.
Turn 4 empire:
Charges his halberds into my tzeentch flank. Moves his wizard out of harm's way.
Magic phase he rolls poorly and I leave flesh to stone on GS and stop his battle prayers.
Shooting phase, opponent decides to go for glory and try to shoot the tzeentch sorcerer lord again instead of thinning out my khorne unit. When the gun powder clears my Lord remains on 1 wound!
Combat phase. I roll really hot with saves and wounds. My tzeentch unit kills last handgunners and some halberds. He rolls poorly and kills 4. My jugg champion is down to a wound but the GS are down to 10! My tzeentch unit loses combat but holds, then reforms. Leaving his halberd flank exposed to my khorne unit.
Chaos turn 5:
I charge khorne unit into his halberd flank and move my Lord out of sight of his HBVG.
Magic phase, I cast blades of aiben on khorne warriors and transmutation of lead onto his halberd horde.
Combat phase, It's basically a massacre, he loses steadfast and needs snake eyes, fails with re roll and at that point I win the game!
Was a great first game against a really enjoyable opponent. Dice rolls went hot and cold for each player and it felt like it could of gone either way.
I will post the other games later on, thanks for reading!
