Having trouble deciding on these 2 lists, the Mournfang adds an entire additional unit to aid in flanking and forcing confrontations through speed, whereas the bigger Maneater block can pick any hero out of enemy units and shoot or poison their way through most monsters, being specially useful for forcing Phoenixes down. The Smaller unit can't reliably one turn Heroes but is significantly cheaper to lose, the Mournfang also act as backup to the Rhinox and a more reliable option for when frenzied Woolly Rhinos are overkill. The bigger block of Maneaters won't be killed by a single fireball. I'm also torn between Heavens and Beasts on the Butcher; Iceshard Blizzard and Wyssan's Wildform are both matchup-changers. Iceshard nerfs hit rolls and makes those Fear and Break tests easier to fail all in one, Wildform doubles up on the Maw's offensive and defensive buffs and lets units fight their way out of High armour and high toughness enemies. The catch being the much cheaper and greater ranges on the Heavens spells vs the Beasts higher cost and shorter ranges in return for the swing in wounds dealt and taken.

Do you have a link to the Grimhorn Rhinox riders rules?
Where were they from originally.
I think the flying firebelly is a fun option.
I personally like the first list if only for the 6 rhinox/mammoth

The Forgeworld rules for the 8th edition can be found here. I think the WD 309 of September 2005 was the first to feature the Rhinox Riders.

Them be the breaks on the Rhinos: about 115 points a head vs the mournfangs 70, it buys you a 1+ over a 2+, 1 more strength and toughness, about 2 or 3 more attacks depending on whose interpretation of that frenzy rule we be using, 1 more weapon skill on the rider, 1 more initiative on the rider, 1 more leadership, 1 more impact hit per model, Frenzy and stubborn at the cost of 1 less movement and no parry until they lose a fight.

I'd find 5pts somewhere to put the Gleaming Pennant on the Rhinoxes for that one critical frenzy bait test. Also a musician so you can quick reform the turn after running down whatever.
Otherwise, cool lists. Six maneater is probably the stronger one.

They are great. Fluffy rules and damn they hit hard. Is it meant for chariot bases? Frenzy RAW (fvon incoming) would affect the whole model so I'm thinking a Thunderlord solo is an amazing choice with extra hand weapon. 7 attacks then 5 for the Rhinox so a 12 attacks at Strength 5 from the single model and that's without impact hits! Thats insane on a 50mm frontage model. 17 attacks maximum with stomp and max impact hits...wow. 2501 points though...in a 2500 point list...tsk tsk

Chariot bases indeed, would never give the thunderlord a weapon though in favour of the Ironfists.
Points for the Gleaming pennant or standard of discipline is a tough one, personally I don't think I'll let them out of reach of the BSB if I can help it.

I would drop a wizard. 3 are too much for 8th edition, will probably be useless and all dices will be used by lvl 4

The level 2 scroll caddy is just as necessary and does serious work in combat as well. Latest test games are making me think I was crazy not to take Beasts before, T5 and S7 even on the Butcher makes him an unreasonable threat.

Brutally fun lists. I’d favour the mournfang one but that is purely as I’m going through a phase of living Cav of all sorts!

I have rolled Transformation of Kadon in all 4 practice games, This is not a goddamn valid data set.
I should have known probability would fail me when I rolled it in both games vs Nikki.
Edit: I'm also starting to think Mournfang + Scouting Maneaters is the better option, do I do Scouting Swiftstride, Scouting Poison or Scouting Sniper I wonder? And do I keep the Pistols, do my usual additional hand weapon Shtick or take 3 with Great Weapons?

Its going to be the Mournfang one I do declare. The Maneater unit at that size just doesn't shoot hard enough or find targets easy enough to justify their points. Another block of Mournfang to hold a flank is going to be the game changer.
I have decided to throw in a Champion and Great weapons on the 3 man unit of Maneaters and take Scout and Swiftstride. I want to see if a high strength unit can outperform additional hand weapons in the same role.

It worked very well, the Butcher becoming fightier really helps beef up his units combat res and it makes him so much harder to kill at the same time. Going for the Hydra seems to be the optimal choice (Breath weapon, armour, regen, 7 attacks) and only going for the Mountain Chimera or Fire Dragon in times of desperation. Its going to be a disappointment now when I never roll it again. Wildform, of course, is always a fight changer.
