By popular request, here we go again! The monthly painting threads are great for ensuring you crack the brushes out to get something done on a regular basis, but the yearly thread is about setting some bigger goals for yourself - things that really motivate you in the hobby, like building and painting a castle, painting up a force for a particular campaign, completing an army, or finally finishing off those models you started a decade ago that are still languishing in the pile of shame. Here's mine: - Paint at least 100* more models than I get. This is the main goal, which helps ensure the backlog is steadily reduced. I managed it last year; I've no idea how many unpainted models I have across WFB/40k/other games, but it's probably not far from 1,000. I need to be achieving this if I want to get close to catching up. However, that asterisk is there in case Warhammer: The Old World comes out and has loads of models released for it - because if it does, I'm going to be buying most of them, and there's no way I can manage this. So if TOW is released this year, I'm reducing this goal to "50 more than I get".
- Paint over 200 models. This ensures I have to paint loads even in the highly unlikely event I barely buy anything, and also covers me by giving me a hefty but achievable goal in case I utterly fail goal 1 by buying ridiculous amounts of models.
- Keep both Dark Elf and Dwarf armies 100% complete. I don't think I'll be finishing off any other armies this year, as I like the "butterfly" approach, but I want to ensure the armies I have finished remain finished if I buy more of them.
- Paint at least 20 Lord of the Rings / Hobbit models. I rewatched the films recently, and got my models out again to admire them. I know it's not WFB, but there are some fantastic models there, I have quite a few of them, and I've never painted any. This needs to change.
- Finish my Skaven Blood Bowl team. This is achievable as I painted about 2/3rds of the models already, but I need to stop leaving part-finished projects around the place.
- Paint at least two of my big centrepiece models. My Carmine Dragon, which was my first ever Forge World model, should be one of these. I shouldn't just paint quick and easy infantry the whole time.
- Make a start on my Skaven, Lizardmen and Bretonnia armies. Possibly just infantry for the three, but it's about time they got paint on them.
All of these should be achievable, unless GW showers us with amazing Warhammer Fantasy models, in which case I am utterly screwed.

- Finish models needed for Sigmar's Blood campaign.
- Terrain kits (Skullvane Manse, Witchfate Tor, Garden of Morr, etc.).
- Start a Kislev army when they launch with Warhammer: The Old World.

Hmmm, let's see if I can be more realistic this year... 1. Paint up a warband for Warcry. 2. Paint up a box of Imperial Armada figures for Freebooter’s Fate. 3. Finish my Roman warband for Saga. 4. Paint at least *something* for my Albion and Chaos armies. 5. Paint up more space marines for Horus Heresy. 6. And of course, also do some fun stuff and try some new techniques. That's not too much, right?

My 2023 goals:
1) paint 100 Empire models. This always was my main army and I haven't been adding much in recent years. Sigmar can't be happy. 2) Wood Elves. My newest army, currently at 750pts. Do as many as I can get my grubby hands on. End the year with no unpainted Wood Elves...and ideally a 2500pts army but that'll be tough. 3) Expand a Nurgle Chaos Legion, currently a tad over 2k. Aiming for 3k (and secretly hoping to overachieve) 4) As always chip away at Grey Mountain. so mostly Empire and Chaos ( (yay, synergy with 1) and 3))

Good goals, and thanks for kicking this off
mine: 1) assemble and paint the 94 Warriors of Erehwon Orcs that are still on sprue 2) assemble and paint Morgok's Krushas on 25mm square bases 3) repair all broken miniatures in my collection from the move 4) repaint 400 (yes 400) OnG models to my current standard (the standards are higher, but its still a low bar) 5) add standards (the banner kind, not moral) to all my naked banner poles in my orc army 6) absolutely purchase everything greenskin in The Old World releases... and depending on when in 2023 that is, assembled, or assembled and base painted or done

For 2023 I want to:
- ... get at least one of the following armies painted to 1000 points or more: O&G, Ogres, Warriors of Chaos, Zombie Pirates. This one, while being on top of the list, is also the most vague one - so chances are I will do a bit of everything and get nothing done properly.
- ... paint one Ogre each week. This plays heavily into the first goal of course, but mostly came from the thought of "well, about 50 Ogres would be a massive force, and even if I fail some weeks, I can also start fresh each week". Maybe this will work out and get me a solid couple of bellies for a varied army.
- ... play at least the first scenario in the "Sigmars Blood" campaign with only painted models and fitting terrain. My Undead are on a good way here, with only the Corpse Cart and some bases needing paint (and varnish, and grass...). Terrain remains to be done. I also hope to get additional units done, just for more choice in non-campaign games.
- ... keep painting at least something each day. I did this over the last year already, so this one might end up being the easiest of these. The question is: will it lead to some organised results in terms of painted armies?
- ... paint more models than last year. I finished painting 104 models in 2021, and 116 models in 2022. 10 models per month should get me to 120 in 2023. A man can dream!
Other than painting, I want to play at least one other regular game of 8th edition with any of the armies above. If the heavens smile on us, it might even be with the TOW rules - actually really hoping for some "surprise" here!
Knowing my hobby butterfly - which is hyperactive bitch and on drugs 24/7 - any or all or nothing of the above might happen. We... will... see...

I suppose this year I should put in some more solid goals but it’s tricky being such a hobby butterfly. Ok so…
1) Get the bulk of my Lizardmen complete. Not a very lofty goal as it basically consists of a bucket load of skinks. Yes I have another steg and the odd other thing and I’m almost certainly going to pick up another bastildon at some point but completing the skinks will give me a fully painted playable army and the rest is just a bonus.
2) Get stuck into my Empire. If I can make the same inroads with these that I did with the Brets this year that will be another army pretty much boxed. As it involves a lot more infantry I’m sure it won’t be as quick but we’ll see. I’ll also enjoy this more than other goals, as the bulk is unbuilt and in boxes and building models is by far and away the most enjoyable bit for me.
Apart from that, I have plenty of other things to flit between
3) I have a ton of 3/4th Ed VC skeletons to paint up plus a load of the newer toys (coven throne, mortis engine, crypt horrors etc). 4) Quite literally a ton of metal OnG models from 3-6th Ed. I might pull out the odd model now and then. 5) I also have more units here and there for my other armies. I’ve blitzed some of the armies so much over the last few years, thanks to the painting challenges, that completing these would finish the armies (until more are bought…). It’s probably why I have avoided them. I don’t like the idea of having a totally finished army!

I know I've not been posting on this forum but I'm still painting away. Managed to finish over 300 last year including over 90 cavalry which was great.
I have several goals this year: 1) Paint more than 300 miniatures, I've succeeded at this the last three years and I'm hoping to put up another good showing this year. 2) Get my Night Goblins (1500), Dark Elves (500), and Vampire Counts (2000) up to 2500-3000 points each. 3) Paint one Monster every month, an analysis of my miniature collection has revealed that I don't have nearly enough monsters, I hope to rectify this. 4) Continue building up my Chaos Legions, last year saw both the Daemons and Warriors of chaos gain about 3k each, so I want to continue that momentum.

For me, it's the same goal as last year: 125 minis. I've got four painted so far. Only 121 left to go. Also, learn how to 3D print. I got one for Christmas in 2021, and still have yet to use it... (I know, sad, right?)

More Beastmen, more monsters. Finish Shar'Tor the Executioner for Chaos Dwarfs. Sprinkling of undead.

Not sad at all, these things just happen.
Maybe give yourself a go at some YT videos about setting up your specific printer? It has helped me a lot. Once the first configuration print was done I was actually hooked to just try out some stuff... and kept going from there.
Which reminds me: I have not used mine in a year... goddammit!

Apologies for the late entry. Despite lurking on this forum virtually every day since I discovered it a year ago I had somehow completely missed this sub forum until now.
Considering I only managed to complete 31 models last year I’m resisting posting all the pie in the sky aspirational targets I’m tempted to delude myself with.
Broadly following Sedge’s OP as a template.
Paint more more than I obtain. ROFL! I can’t seriously entertain this one.
Paint 200 models. I wish. This was my annual target say 20 or 25 years ago but I’m not sure I ever actually hit it even then. More 120 to 150 sort of ballpark. I’ve set myself a target of 100 models this year which is viable. 18 complete so far with another 10 not far off.
Complete my Undivided chaos warriors army. Mission creep saw this ambition explode exponentially at the end of last year. I had 55 definites (though they are virtually all infantry) plus a few possible extras to do for these at the start of this year. Chipped 18 of them off but now been diverted getting more Khorne warrior stuff done for a tournament at the end of April (this is 17 models, or very optimistically as a stretch goal of a whole extra unit, 36 minis). It’s still very possible to achieve completion of the undivided force but it will depend heavily if I do a side project and which one.
Possibly complete a side project. This is a long list of stuff from the stash of opportunity that is not painting chaos armies for my chaos incursion horde. It includes non-chaos warhammer but also includes other things. Likeliest contenders this year are my werewolf army for Kings of War (46 models) or finishing my Star Wars Legion starter set (33 models).
Keep army x complete. Nothing to see here…
Paint some big centrepiece models. I do tend to put these off in order to keep on (in theory) churning out infantry. A time will come when painting them fits in naturally with my progress on their various armies.
Start another army. This would probably mean getting stuck in to one of the chaos armies that is only at contingent size or smaller so far but I’d prefer to get at least one of the 6 that is at army-in-being size finished first.
