Very gritty hunter unit there. The GW archer kit is super nice indeed. The priest needs a little more highlight to standout though.

yep, those larger than life photographs reveal way too much about my lack of painting finesse.

I love the hunter unit and your mounted priest! The banner on the priest's back is a nice, much needed addition. It's been a long time since I've seen a truly good rendition of the hunters too! Great work!

I think the hunters should have a special rule like +1 BS for the unit. Maybe you pay an extra point per a mini for this. Some sort of bonus though because as you point out the story line makes them sound like some fierce unit.

One hunter unit in the empire army (2 in Grand Army) definitely should have the special option to upgrade to veteran status +1 BS at 1.5 pt/model, I think.

And thus began the 9th age idea...lol!

well, as per the scenario, these hunters do have a special rule: shoot twice once per game. not convinced that'll do me much good.
in more general terms, I don't think huntsmen need a big boost to stats. Their main problem is unit size. They would be so much more useful for annoying your opponent if you could take just 5. I find it hard to place ten skirmishing scouts anywhere useful on my battlefields.

And thus began the 9th age idea...lol! I don't find a tiny bit of change to make a very insignificant unit in one single army book become slightly more playable a drastic jump down to the abyss of the 9th Age. To be frank here, I'd rather play Age of Sigmar than the 9th, that's how dim my view towards the latter is

Well, small changes usually spur on other ideas. "That's a good idea! And what about..." That kinda thing. I don't have a problem with making a unit that is always overlooked because of their sub-par performance, playable, but then, where does it stop? Just sayin'.
I think the 9th age group started out with good intentions, but so many people wanted THEIR changes to THEIR armies, that it all became nuts and the rules writers simply wound up creating a whole new game with different names and everything. Most of the people who would've normally been here and a part of this community, have gone there for their next game update. Especially since they had a say in making their army into what they want it to be.

True, probably the hardest thing for humans is to decide how much change is enough I think as long as we still keep the main 8th Rulebook utterly intact from meddling (especially the lore and magic), some slight modifications on some units here and there (no alteration that's worth more than a quarter the point of the units though) would still make the edition much alive without being stale to the veterans. I myself play an entirely fanmade army book but I never consider it less worthy to the name of the 8th Ed than other official books I own. It actually makes me love the 8th much more. Just wonder have we ever had a full ontological debate about the meaning and defines of the 8th Ed here in this forum? Edit: oh well, just checked the flagged threat, I'm on the same boat with Kevin, main rules intact (heck, I even love steadfast rule), the army books can be slightly modified for balance (or fluff!) Perfect!

Perfect! This is basically how i do it! 8th edition rulebook but with tweaked and at times whole new armies. (8th edition Tyranids for example)

9Jul2017 Well, it’s been too long. I got distracted by the good, the bad and the ugly of life. And then, when I made it back to Warhammer, dwarfs tickled my fancy. Now, they continue to do so. It’s all beards and chainmail, easy and quick to paint. I am working my way up to a 1500pts list. But, eventually I made my way back to the Volganof project. Nothing gets me back in the groove like slogging through a batch of Reiksguard and, so I did. I got a little too ambitious with the striping on the standard but I think I stopped myself before my lack of steady hands became too obvious. This brings me up to 70. Twenty Reiksguard left to do…one day, not too soon. I’ve also fixed up my Hurricanum which had shattered in a horrible accident (I wish it was gaming related but, just sitting in a box can be dangerous if you keep the box on a high shelf). Now it’s back to its former glory. I admit it makes me a bit giddy thinking about its aura affecting 2x45 Reiksguard. My next goal will be finishing up the artillery contingent. I went to the arsenal and picked these three pieces. I will honor the previous owner’s color choice of Altdorf on one of them, the other two will be Ostland black-white. Now, the very last cannon as prescribed in the scenario is “Ol’ Puddings” a somewhat special Great Cannon (gets to re-roll the artillery dice). I am struggling a bit with finding an interesting model. The Gamezone cannon is quite nice but, too pricey. I quite like this old Reaper cannon: Pretty close to shelling out the twenty bucks to buy it straight from the store. But, maybe there is a cool conversion I could do instead? Anybody have some suggestions? Ol’ Puddings, the grand old cannon of Volganof, “old and almost worn smooth. Yet it still delivers shots with a deadly and well-known accuracy”. That’s all we have to work with. The official Volganof counter: 839/969

Very nice, I suggested my brother should do that with his War Wagon. Might send him your pics as inspiration Where did you pick up the bits from? Can you get them as spares from ebay?
