I've never gone for armies based on power... I play high elves now, which happen to be strong...but I also played them in 7th, 6th and 5th đ¤ˇ
Regardless of how 'good' they are or are not, I'll still play them in TOW đ

Yeah, the basic rules is the important thing. I don´t care about the rankins, I play Orcs & Goblins only, because I like them. I leave that switching for the best to kids and idiots. Yeah here I am playing a shit ton of armies because I generally enjoy them all. Just play friendly beer and pretzel games with friends so our lists are usually far from optimized haha. Exactly. Have a beer or four, have a laff..

I can successfully lose with even the highest tier armies so it makes no difference

Coming as someone who played tourneys and leagues as Beastmen and Greenskins, absolutely not. Rule of cool.

I'll be ok I've got MANY different armies. Not as many as others around here but enough.
I'm really in it for the rules. I'm old enough now that the game being currently supported makes no difference at all to me. I don't care about new releases, new models, etc I want a good rule set. I'll continue to play 8th edition if the rules suck, and if I like the ruleset AND THEY'VE PROPERLY CAPTURED THE SPIRIT OF THE SKAVEN then I'll play Skaven till I die. Rules can suck as long as Skaven are random and humorous and result in a good story.

Yepp. One of my "local" groups is a 2toxic" (in my humble opinion) 40 group that just proxies the latest, OP shite.. They google what the latest torunament had, what won and what the guy sued and copy it... I don´t get it. At all.
As much fun as themed armies can be.. Playing classic White Dwarf armies, a little bit of everything is pretty fun! Trying to make it work together. I enjoy that muc more than optimizing stuff. And playing some fluffy stuff.
in fact, playing the "best" is.. not fun as I don´t like thinking I might have an advantage.. i rather not.

Trying to work out how to get the best out of a unit is to me faaar more rewarding than curbstomping your oppo with not your army

And as usual I type without re-reading before posting.. just to clear up. I meant I enjoy playing stuff that fits the fluff much more than some shite totally disregarding it. Like not even including the true Core choices. I always thought you should use the fluff as a guide line. But of course you can now and then make some themed or special lists. it is just that an orcs & Goblins army without Orc boyz is just.. not an Orc & Goblin army to me.. (Some Gobbo themed bunch of weedy gitz of course don´t need that! : ) )

To be honest I'm not bothered by the power-level of armies when TOW initially comes out, because if GW release Ravening Hordes-style books for Order and Destruction as they have for Horus Heresy, they may well in time replace them with army books anyway which may change things for the better if my favourite factions were not favoured in the beginning.
Additionally, I'm more concerned about what the rules will be like, whether GW have given all the armies unique playstyles and so on, and how this compares with previous editions of the game.
If it turns out to be fantastic, with certain armies given a refresh in their gameplay and feel (like Beastmen being given 6th Edition Raiders back, as per my army book), the Horde rule being booted out, Magic Items reverted to being mostly army-specific items with only a few generic ones, different armies given different ways of using Magic and Miscasts as per 6th and 7th, and in general all my requirements satisfied, then I will be in.
If however, they keep all the bad parts of 8th (the Horde rule, mostly generic Magic Items, armies losing a fair amount of their quirks, cavalry being too weak) or reintroduce bad bits from 6th or 7th (models losing attacks if they fight second in combat, shields not being usable against shooting attacks, Fear/Terror being too strong, infantry being too weak), without any sign of positive change, then I'll stick with my existing 7th and 8th rules and books, as there will be no point in getting a whole load of new rulebooks and stuff if it doesn't solve the (few) issues I have with existing editions of the game.

I have it on good authority that the rulebook is printed.
Likely out at the end of year? Mainly 7th ed rules, with some changes. Subdued magic, and 360 arc of sight for some units.
The rest of what I know, I won't post here đ

Mainly 7th ed rules, with some changes. Subdued magic, and 360 arc of sight for some units. The rest of what I know, I won't post here đ Where will you post it?

I don't know the answer to the first. Edit: there have been releases in October and November, albeit a while ago... But I won't divulge too much, for my friend's sake.
