Hello! So, on to the next project - and a return to form for me. The next army project will be High Elves, the army of my youth from 5th ed through to 8th ed I pretty much exclusively played High Elves of varying iterations. I have tried diversifying since I have returned to the game but no other army has that same comforting, familiar feeling that High Elves do. I know the background and lore, I know the characters, I know the provinces and the phoenix kings, I know the model range throughout the years... I am fated to be a High Elf Player, it is my destiny! I'll be painting them in traditional white, for their main army colour, and then allowing each unit a provincial spot colour. In this way, I hope to have a unified force, but with a lot of interest both for me as painter, and others as viewer. Or, I might paint them as Avelorn in greens and browns, and save myself the hassle of painting white all together!! I have a large lot coming from a friend who is down sizing his collection, and one here and stripped, I look forward to sharing my progress with you!

Sounds really cool, will gladly follow that! I have a soft spot for the 5th Ed especially, those Ellyrean Reavers, Korhil and the White Lions, the unarmoured Archers, heck, the armoured too as well as those metal spearmen holding their spears straight ahead.. But any look good realy, but those models had the best feel, later plastics sometimes have a little bigger hands and so on. the plastic Archers being a bit iffy.. But all of it looks good, once painted I guess.. Ah well, looking forward to whatever..

Thanks for the reply... This will be a good mix across the ages I think, some of the newer models scale really well with some older models. There are some definites...
Spears and archers will be the original monopose... They are some of my absolute favourite models!
Because of the above, shadow warriors, swordmasters and phoenix guard will be the newer plastics, as they fit well scale wise
I'd *like* plastic White Lions, but that's unlikely based on price... Likely these will end up being the 6th ed metals for now anyway.
Great eagles will be the hobbit eagles, I always use them... Great looking dynamic models in plastic, what's not to love!

Yeah the Hobbit eagles are great. I actually didn't mind the old Warhammer ones but the LOTR ones are just too sweet.
Look forward to the glitter.

First up then, some existing work. You may recognise this from elsewhere as I've definitely posted this various places before. The BSB here is the limited one that came with the 6th edition army deal. I love this model, great posing, nice little details and good expression. The only thing I don't like is how the banner itself is a carbon copy of the plastic multipart archers sprue. I'd have liked to see some sculpted detail or, better yet, a different shape to it ( or even the same shape but bigger!). Regardless it's a nice model which I'm pleased to have. And then, a spearmen champion. This is my favourite of the champion sculpts, and the antlers feel firing for a unit of Avelorn. Simple scheme, white and red as the main colours over the white. Working on some spearmen today, to get a unit done 👌

And here's today's work 25 spears, with command. They are a little rough... Individually they won't stand up to scrutiny! But as a whole, and from arms length, they look great. Waiting on some Tufts and static grass, but I'd play them like this. I probably won't finish the rest of the shields yet. Lets get some more units done!

Yeah that BSB is nice to have, sweet! And that classic champion is really cool! nice work so far!
Don´t know the Swordmaster-plastics good enough, should probably look at them. How do they compare the the late 5th Ed, I think it is, metals? Sizewize, style and so on?
God to hear about those White Lions, love those. There is plastics??

He's not the rarest of LTD editions, but nice none the less. So, plastic swordmasters came with Isle of Blood. They are single piece models in the most part, with the banner and musician both being 2 part models. They're taller and beefier than the older metal swordmasters and in my opinion, don't mix well. They have the same 'aesthetic', as in heavy armour and big swords, and clearly take a lot of design cues though so you may think differently. And yes, plastic White Lions.. you haven't seen them? They came out at the same time as the plastic phoenix guard.... They are very rare to see now, always demanding a high price!

A bit of work completed today - these were bare undercoat when I woke up this morning so I'm pleased they have got this far to be honest! They are, as always, aimed towards good tabletop standard. My painting doesn't hold up well to close photography under bright lights but hopefully you get the idea of what I've gone for here. Alarielle first then, the Everqueen and leader of my army. I love this old model more so than the modern finecast version. It still holds up well today, flowing robes, lots of hair ...lovely model Then Korhil, stalwartly protecting the Everqueen from attack in the midst of battle! I like the stoic pose here, added a little scenic base so he stands tall. And then a mage, that I already had painted, but just needed some touch ups. Simple scheme again

Nope. I left the hobby in.. 2007, i´m not really sure. Came back 2019. So hard to keep track of all that happened. I had no idea, lol. I even forget there is a newer Korhil, which looks nice! I like both.
That mage is nice too, from one of the campaign packs in late 5th Ed iirc? (when I was not yet playing WFB, just farty K - but i was reading the WD articles)

Really a great colour scheme. There's something to be said for a block of shiny armored elves deployed on the battlefield. And that free hand, only those who tried it know ho hard it is to make a decent curved shape as a free hand (especially in white!), great job.

These are looking awesome. I'm very jealous of your ability to paint smooth lines on your freehand.
