I was wondering what constitutes horde formation for a unit of rat ogres. Given they're a mixed unit there seem to be various interpretations:
1: 10 model frontage (can be a mix of rat ogres and packmasters), as the unit type isn't monstrous infantry so needs 10 models 2: 6 model frontage (can be a mix of rat ogres and packmasters), as the majority of the unit is monstrous infantry 3: 6 rat ogre frontage, plus any master moulders that have to be there
I've always played using interpretation 3, but is that right?
While not specifically detailed, these two entries in the Skaven FAQ indicate it should be #3.
Q: The Packmasters’ special rule Running with the Pack and the special rule Beast Pack seem to contradict each other. How do they work? (p53) A: The Packmaster and Master Moulder models are ignored when working out the unit’s rank bonus, so only ranks of Rat Ogres count. Use the Packmasters’ or Master Moulders’ Ld value (or the General’s) as the base Ld for the unit, to which you then add the Rat Ogres’ rank bonus.
Q: Can a Packmaster use his whip from behind an additional rank of Giant Rats or Rat Ogres if they are deployed as a horde (10 or 6 models wide respectively)? (p53) A: No.
