Wow, that didn't work out I do not recall everything in chronological order but I'll try and summarise. He had a dragon mage on dragon, Eltharion on Griffon, Dragon Princes with BOTW banner, Silver Helms, 2 sky chariot thingies, 2 units of scouts and a level 2 fire mage. He destroyed me :-) He got first turn and his scouts released my three fanatics, which made it difficult to maneuver for me. His scouts also shot at my mangler a lot. My spider failed a charge and was then multicharged so that he never actually fought back His flying chariots and Griffon made sure they always had flank charges and he killed off all of my smaller units before the Savage Orc Big Uns broke (11 and 12 on a break test from one flank charging chariot). In the end my General fled from the goblins to at least smash one chariot. Then he lumbered off for another Waaagh. The trolls almost killed Eltharion so they were good. A mangler also took out 5 silver helms and a snotling pumpwagon took out 5 Reavers. Man of the match was my Goblin shaman who survived getting shot at with over 30 arrows and not getting a single wound!
So in conclusion, I was outpositioned heavilly. I couldn't get the SOBU to charge anything and his superior speed made sure all of my smaller stuff was killed first. I have the feeling that my level of playing remains the same but my opponent is getting a lot better. He never multicharged before the last three games and he's getting good at it. That makes ...seven games without a win for me....I'm playing High Elves next...if I lose with them, I'm demanding a 250 point lead in the game after that!
Bad luck! Highly manuouverable units and flyers like he had can be the bane of hordes. Sneaky elves! Better luck next time.

Do you have any wolf riders? Their movement would help a lot in this matchup. A Doom diver or two would put the fear into the elf flyers.

I tried avoiding war machines and going for a full close combat army. He countered with a highly mobile army. He probably would have killed the war machines round one, unless I defended them, which would have weakened my other units. The point is moot since those strong units didn't actually do something...ah well :-)

frozenfood, You should def take a few war machines. If your army had a few war machines, I'd recommended castling up or doing a modified refused flank. In example, if your deployment zone has a hill, deploy the war machines on the hill for superior LOS. Then deploy your units around the hill in a manner that: 1. defends the war machines and 2. defends the flanks of your units. You'll want to make the formations tight so that a flyer cannot land on the hill because there is no room, and they can't charge your flanks because their is no room. The best way to do this is by taking a corner of your deployment zone and then create a diagonal line of units the protecting flanks with the two board edges also protecting the flanks. Have your Night Goblins w/Fanatics bunkered up in the rear lines so that no enemy can get with 8" of them - that way you control when to release them by moving them. Your war machines, archers, and shamans continue to shoot at the enemy until they decide to charge your fortified battle line. I believe this type of tactic would do well against the High Elf force you described.
