well, I was all pumped for having magnetized my unit of 30 White Lions yesterday... but today half of the magnets had pulled out.
Plastic glue is a no, I'll try liquid nails now as was suggested here to see if it works out any better.

Whenever I was working on a model in Architecture school and wanted something to REALLY stick, I'd mix some Rubber Cement with Super Glue. That will NOT come apart.

My approach to magnets. I mix up some aepoxie sculpt (cheaper less detail friendly version of greenstuff). Drop some superglue in the base Put a small amount of aepoxie sculpt on top of the glue Push the magnet into the aepoxie sculpt Put a smaller amount of aepoxie sculpt on top of the magnet Flip it over and push down on a piece of flat plastic or aluminum foil on a hard flat surface. Let it dry in that position
You want the magnet to be close to the bottom of the base to maximize pull. Gluing it to the top of the base puts it too far You also want the magnet not to be pulling itself down into thin air as that means the force of the magnet is trying to directly break your glue continuously.
This sculpting medium sandwich provides a support to out the magnet as close as possible to the steel plate while also burying it in a layer of hard sculpting medium and giving a brace of that medium between magnet and it's "escape" away from the bad.
