3. Cannons shouldn't be lasers, should scatter: like every other mechanic in the game, dice are now involved much more appropriately 4. Cannons shouldn't hit both rider and mount: at least 2 cannons required to kill a large ridden monster I'd do something like give any unit (or single model) with less than five rank and file members a 3+ ward save against wounds caused by a cannon. That would encourage cannons to target blocks of troops and discourage them lasering single characters, monsters, skirmishers, etc.

I might even recommend that when a cannon targets a unit of less than 5 models it scatters, but shoots as the current rules when targeting a unit of 5 or more models. Another idea, what it they were extremely unreliable in terms of blowing up? For example, if a cannon misfires, 1-4 = destroyed, 5-6 = cannot shoot this turn or next turn.
