Maybe slobulous has multiple armies. Nope, just a 4000 pt Ogre Kingdoms army that has never set foot on the battlefield. I'm looking for my first game to be in the 2250 - 2500 pt range using the standard 8th ed rulebook. I play 40k competitively and I want to play WFB 8th ed competitively as well.

Sweet! I'd like to see it!
Unfortunately, I'm a few states over in Alabama. I've been to Fort Worth once though. Nice place!
Keep at it though! Something will turn up!

Sure, I'll post some pics of my army soon. Although I have never actually played, I have studied my Armybook and the main rulebook extensively and I believe I have created quite a strong list:
Lords (380)SlaughterMaster - Level 4, Lore of the Great Maw, Fencer's Blades, Glittering Scales, Talisman of Endurance, Ironcurse Icon
Heroes (179)Firebelly - Level 1, Lore of Fire, Great Weapon, The HellHeart (179)Firebelly - Level 1, Lore of Fire, Great Weapon, Ruby Ring of Ruin, Dispell Scroll
Core (670)Ironguts x15 - Standard of Discipline
Special (21)Sabertusk (21)Sabertusk (21)Sabertusk
(344)Leadbelchers x8 (344)Leadbelchers x8
Rare (170)Ironblaster (170)Ironblaster
2499
Slaughtermaster and Firebellies join the Ironguts for Horde Formation. Charge straight ahead with defensive buffs up and steamroll the enemy battle line while spitting fireballs on the way in. The blocks of Leadbelchers cover the flanks of the Gutstar and annihilate chaff to keep it from getting slowed down or blow big chunks out of enemy blocks with 16 D6 worth of armor piercing shots. My own chaff in the 3 lone Sabertusks range ahead of the main force and do what they do best. Ironblasters do work on monsters or counter-battery against opposing artillery. Pretty straightforward. Lots of shooting and pretty strong magic phase.
Worst enemy is obviously the Purple Sun, but thats why I have the HellHeart and a scroll. What do you think

Welcome slobulous. I don't know too much about ogres but I'm thinking you may get into trouble at times with no BSB. Having a big block of ogres panic off the table early in the game could spell doom. Also, typically you won't end up with enough power dice to make your three casters plus one bound spell worth while. You will have seven spells total. I would think the level four and one level 1 would be enough.
I hope you get to try out 8th edition and enjoy it as much as us.

Hey slobulous. I love my Ogre Army. It gets the most play from me. I started them as soon as they came out. You really should find a way to get a BSB. Your SM is perfect in my opinion. I'm not a friend of the gutstar horde. Very unweildy, and therefore vulnerable to side and rear charges. I'd drop a fire belly and get some base Ogres. They aren't as killy, but are still tough, can parry with the iron fist, and can make countercharges against units engaging your ironguts. I often have 10 ironguts and 2 characters in a unit with two units of ogres on their flanks.

Hey Slobulous. Honestly, I've never been very impressed by Leadbelchers very much. While the D6 shots they generate sounds impressive, I've seen it (more times than not) roll really poor. Also, they are heavily penalized for those shots, -1 to hit for multiple shots, -1 to hit if they move (which they usually do), -1 to hit for long range. These are typical penalties I've seen them have to suffer. That means out of the few shots you roll up, only 6's will be hitting anything, then you still have to roll to wound. If I see my opponent put them down, I typically just ignore them.
Ogres real strength lies in Close Combat. They are the best army at both offensive and defensive close combat. That's where you need to focus your attention. The two Ironblasters are great long range threats and can cover you from things like cannons or fast armies, but they can also dish out some punishment as chariots if an enemy gets too close.
I agree with the previous comments. I'd also think about trimming back on the Leadbelchers for regular Ogres like Avatarofbugman said, but also try fitting in a Tyrant (one of the toughest guys in the game) as well as a BSB. Those three characters in your Ogre bus will absolutely wreck face. This also allows you to push your Slaughtermaster to the second rank where he will be more protected and still get to throw in all his attacks. Brutal.
Whatever you do though, get these guys into close combat as fast as possible. Don't allow them to get shot to pieces and magicked to death. That's exactly what your opponents will try to do. They will put some re-directors in front of your bus and then shoot and magic them (for the entire game if you let them). Nobody will ever want to get into CC with them. Also, one last little bit of advise, don't get in the way of your bus. I've seen way too many times when someone got caught up trying to clear chaff out of their way by charging a Sabertusk at some chaff and wound up getting tied up in combat or not overrunning enough or even losing the combat. A Sabertusk can chaff your own army up as much as your opponents can. Keep the path clear for them. A kinda cheesy move that I've seen work before is to place a Sabertusk on either side of your bus and let them just "escort" your bus into combat. That way, if someone tries to re-direct you, your bus cannot "close the door" to them because you have a Sabertusk 1" away on either side, not allowing you to pivot, thus they have to close the door to you, then you can kill them and overrun for more movement. Just be careful to back the Sabertusks off when you start getting close enough to be within charge range for your bus. Your Sabertusks can also inhibit you from being able to pivot in order to charge your opponent.
Hope that helps!

I live in Fort Worth and would be open to occasional meetings for now, growing in frequency as I get my army back together; it's currently badly damaged (a LOT of my minis were stolen by a friend or lost in a move), so I'd need either a huge chunk of my army to be "counts as" with empty bases or very small fights or skirmishes.
However, I'm an Empire player wanting to branch into Dwarfs, Chaos Dwarfs, and Orcs & Goblins (and maybe others in time, but those are my big three). So, you've got that much to count on.
Also, I'm wanting to get into 40K with an Imperial Guard, Orks, and maybe Tyranids armies. I'd love to learn the rules with you!
