I play WoC and have never used chosen as yet, although I am very tempted to take them in competitive play. Their problem is that they are probably a point or two overpriced, and come out of special.
If you have a warshrine, as I always do, they are dicing 4d6 on eye of the gods at the beginning of the game and picking any two. This means the odds of getting one of the really good rewards is nearly 100%- they are going to be getting either:
- +1 toughness
- +1 armour save
- +1 ward save
- +1 strength
- +1 attack
- And against certain armies the +1 WS and +1 initiative is handy too although still not as good (means ws3 are 5 to hit, and elves won't get the ASF reroll).
And then there's also obviously the outside chance of a Daemon Price too, but that will still be very rare.
The usual chaos warrior build of halberds with Mark of Nurgle is of course also strong with chosen, but I also like Tzeentch with hand weapons and sheilds because they are a point cheaper and if they get any of the defensive buffs they become reall quite ridiculously tough- looking at T5, 3+/5+, or T4 2+/5+, T4 3+/4+. They can also have Tzeentch's blasted standard (halves strength of shooting).
So the first builds I am looking at is 20 of the Tzeentch above with Blasted Standard. Problem is it costs nearly 500 points out of special! Core will then likely be another chaos warrior block, givin a slow infantry army, or a shedload of chariots.
The second build would be a tiny unit of 5 (something you can do with chosen given minimun size) probably with halberds or additional hand weapons, and khorne. This is a strange unit in that it won't look like a shooting priority for the enemy given the other nasty things WoC have, but the unit would be crazy in offense, especially with certain rewards (with the +1 attack it would have 26 WS6 str 4 attacks- obscene). There's also the option of two units of 5 chosen, which means the odds of daemon prince rise to a significant off-chance.
Anyone else have experience playing chosen, or facing them?
