Alright, after I successfully created the first Tabletop Wargame Club in Ha Noi, the original plan of spreading Warhammer Fantasy and Historical to this happily GW-ignorant corner of the world has been slightly diverted (or rather perverted). With the absolute majority of the new members are enthralled by the hipper 40k, I had little choice but to follow the crowd (other than an exaction that we play Fantasy 8th Edition using my collection once per two months). But to be frank, I was being very fond of the 40k Dark Universe for a long time and with this new Edition being very accessible, the jump has been rather voluntary and enjoyable. Similar to my aesthetic predisposition in Fantasy, I always lean towards armies that are elites yet have a root on the real world, i.e humans (with some acceptable variables). Ergo, the logical choice would be Tempestus Scions with some supporting elites from the Imperium. Used to play with metals 20 year old and plastics more than half that age, I have been absolutely floored by the quality of the sculpts and the obscene amount of customisation in the kits of the newly arrived Start Collecting Militarum Tempestus. Oh well, we Oldhammers do have to miss so much good for being so old-schooled So this thread will report my work in creating a start-from-scratch Imperium 40k army. I definitely still love and play Warhammer Fantasy but my rather strained focus has been slightly switched off to this new project a little bit. To honor the brilliance of the Tempestus Kit, I decided to magnetise every equipment possible for each and every of the hottest boys of the Imperium! Stay tuned, gentlemen...

So you get a fantasy game every two months now? Congrats! Nah, frankly I would rather play with myself once per month in stead of wasting my time educating the kiddos who may not be really interested.

Looks awesome! I have to admit, while I have been a stubborn supporter of 8th edition Fantasy (and nothing else), I have been seriously tempted to start a 40K army, especially with this new edition. Those Militarum Tempestus look really cool.
I just know NOTHING about 40K. What army should I pursue? I've always liked the look and sound of Space Wolves (I just have a thing for wolves. That's even why I made my Empire army based in Middenheim! Lol!) but I don't know what to get. (I was interested in Grey Knights as well, but I've heard that they were overpowered. But that was a while ago. May be different now.) My friend that REALLY wants me to get into 40K, has a Space Marine Salamanders army and a Tyranids army. Do you have any suggestions?

Lol, no offence, but the wheels on that tank kind of remind me of this:

Lol, no offence, but the wheels on that tank kind of remind me of this: The Taurox is certainly not the best looking 40k vehicle but since it is my very first model on track/wheels, I did try my darnest best to make it look good (mostly by raising the Missile system, without which even Orks would refuse to be transported inside the fugly metal box). I think if you are fond of wolves (and Viking maybe), you definitely need to take on the Space wolves. They are pretty strong, have lots of great models and with low model count would make starting a force pretty easy. Grey Knights are great too, they along with the Death Watch will be my second army after I finish the Elites of the Astra Militarum.

Around here 40k is almost exclusive. I do see AoS, Warmahordes, infinity, and Malifaux, but it's seriously like 95% 40k.
The problem I have is 3/4 of all the 40k armies are marines of some type. No matter what army you play yourself it gets old.
And I don't know what it is about the 40k gamer but 80% of those armies MIGHT have 1 or 2 painted figures.
I just don't care for that anymore. In order to not be bored with it you will then start collecting a different army, then eventually you'll get bored of that and want to move on to something else etc...
That's the quick story about how I lost interest in playing 40k; that and I joined a local slow grow league, but only managed one game throughout the entire league because most of the guys were friends with each other (and much younger) and were getting all their games by playing with each other (and not encouraging community growth by welcoming new players).
I've had enough. 40k (and now AoS) are a young mans game. I'm fine collecting just fantasy and historics (flames of war)

I've never really experienced a 40K game. It looks really simple compared to Fantasy, and that alone has turned me off, but SO MANY are fascinated but the game! Seriously! What the hell?!? I thought I'd just go ahead and give it a good try, then when I've bought, modeled, painted and played a few games, I'll be fully able to compare why Fantasy is the better game.

I'm fine collecting just fantasy and historics (flames of war) I remember my time in the UK, and it probably reflects even now: In the same gaming centers, The 40k tables were usually full of kids with the worst paints I had seen in my life whereas the Historical tables always had some of the most spectacular armies in full regalia, painstakingly administered by likely the most knowledgeble gentlemen in the hobby (The Fantasy was somewhere in between these two extremes). I was very young at the time, but I would have been really embarrased to be seen with those kiddos on top of their half bitten Spess Mehreens But now I'm just happy to get several real opponents and the new 40k is a good place to jump in. I have liked the lore just as much as the Fantasy one (though I believe it will inevitably deteriorate). The Fantasy and Ancient Greek/Renaissance projects I would probably keep to myself until the local Wargaming has grown strong enough to allow some divergents/eccentrics to surface.

40K had both magic and technology, the entire universe to play with which means there was a planet for every weird thing imaginable. There were technology cults, spaceships that were in fact gothic citadels, entire chapters of low level mages mutated to become giant warriors. Cool lore. My main problem was that orcs never won, cool stories but could not hit a space marine at two feet.
It's a coincidence that my friend has over 2000 fantasy miniatures lying around. I played both versions 25 years ago and now only fantasy. Love the lore of fantasy too. Smaller scale but the medieval setting makes a thing like a steamtank even more magical.
