Actually that's one thing I've wondered about: Is it common to use End Times stuff for 8th ed nowadays? Because between that and the Grand Alliance of the Everchosen... My opponent regularly uses the Lore of Undeath on his Empire wizards; he likes summoning TK units to chaff me up. Played a game Monday and he managed to get a Necrosphinx into the fray; I transformed my Great Shaman into a Mountain Chimera to take it on but could only do 4 wounds to it - he in turn managed to get off a lucky HKB with its special attack and kill my shaman/mountain chimera in one fell swoop! We still try and use 25% lords and heroes, but we will take units and characters from end times if we feel like it. It's rare though most of our games are straight 8th edition.

I don't like the huge % allowance in lords or the new magic phase of end times, but I like the new army mergers and units, I dont think they are too OP. My favorite is the new HKB thirster!

See, I'm just the opposite.
I don't mind the 50% Lords and Heroes allowance, because that allows me to play some Special Characters like Thorogrim Grudgebearer or Mazdamundi. And forget putting Tyrion and Teclis in one list! That's why I like that rule. I don't feel as though it changes the game up too much. And if someone is used to playing Herohammer, I can see why this rule would concern them, but I've never really seen it effect a game that much since 8th edition heavily weighs on having plenty of bodies in units. That alone prohibits an army list from becoming too one-sided with unkillable characters.
Now, as far as combining the Undead, Elf and Chaos armies...I feel as though it's just wrong. There are certain things every army excels at and some areas where they are severely lacking. Those areas are where you can take advantage and a good general will attack them. Take Vampire Counts for example. Good at movement, magic, chaffing, combat, and can't be run down. But shooting? There is none. No warmachines...UNTIL you combine them with TK. Now, they have access to Screaming Skull Catapults and a Casket of Souls, so they have an army that doesn't run, can tarpit and keep adding to said tarpit, can nullify your magic phase and abilities, and also bring some of the most broken character builds in the game, all while sitting back and letting you come and stop them. That's not right, IMO.
And why didn't that happen with other armies like the Empire, Dwarfs and Bretonnians? Orcs & Goblins, Lizardmen and Ogres? They're kinda screwed. Nothing new to combat these harder combined threats! This is why I and my friends don't play with those rules or the whatever-lore-incarnate characters. There may be a few units that were introduced that can be good additions (such as the Morghasts) but as a whole, I don't care for them. I don't mind playing someone who really wants to play with these rules or units, but as a whole, I don't want it to replace the normal rules. I look at it as special expansion rules.

STORMFIENDS! Skaven get a decent BS based shooter in their list that doesn't run away at the first sign of trouble and can hold their own against a lot of things.
I'm fine with Undead being able to combine. A LONG time ago the Undead were all one great big book and back then they had access to everything; as far as I'm concerned they've just digressed back to those great days when I first started playing.
I don't like what they did with the Elves.
I don't MIND the 50% lords and heroes if my opponent does it but I certainly don't do it as I actually like to have an army to back up those characters. It's still 8th edition where RnF is still (usually) king.
Once he's painted end-times Archaon is coming out to play...

Is he coming? I want so much to paint Archon but feels a little bit waste of time when we play 1500p games 😊

I'm going to take a break from assembly here this weekend and get started on him. He's been neglected for too long. Of course that's also going to mandate more Chaos knights as I only have 12 of them painted up and he's going to need an enormous block of the swords of chaos to ride around in.

@alex and Kevin- Just a reminder about the 9th age tournament at NuBrand this Saturday (March 10th). It maybe worthwhile for you to introduce yourself and see if any of the players want to also play 8th edition.

Will be looking to practice filming some games with the goal of eventually doing battle reports. If anyone is game or in the area visiting, let me know!
Have all the equipment required and can loan army if need be.

FYI the 9th age NYC crew is coming close on getting a GT set up. Also someone last week posted in the Mythicos Studios FB group looking for an 8th ed game I pointed them here, but if we have some NYC NJ folks around worth joining that FB group to find him.

I'm part of their group - most are deep into 9th and haven't shown a lot of interest in 8th. I played the Orcs & Goblin game that was part of the Battle Report with one of them, but the others don't seem to fond because they're practicing lists for the GT and such. Makes total sense - just no 8th. I'll go looking for that 8th person. AND I WILL FIND HIM.
