Ok guys
So those of you that've seen the Blog know what I'm on about, my grand project
I'd like some input if I could, from you, the brains trust! I started the project with a fairly vague plan I.E. 15k each army... that's it... But as I am getting more and more of my first army done (Delfs) I am finding my original plan for them, which was to be purely Har-Ganeth isn't sitting so well with me anymore. I kind of feel I should be representing the core of each race, not building huge armies of the facet that I alone am interested in... I feel my 15k should represent the whole of each race! Now I know many of you will say "Bro its your hobby, its your collection you do you" and that's very valid. I also feel that this is sort of bigger than me and what I want. I've gotten some great feedback on my insta and the blog its self from old school EE players and collectors, many of them looking forward to the time I start the army they are most fond of. Ive had guys ask me to paint up some cold ones and a hydra (I was originally not going to have them in the army) My question is; Once I have this completed will I look back and go "shit I wish I'd've been more of a purist" or will I look back and go "Yea, that's my art and there is my mark" Im torn because I WANT it to be mine, Like all of us who take joy from painting and story telling but I also want to commit and preserve the world that was. What do you guys think? In all honesty right now I'm leaning toward the latter, focusing my huge armies on representing the true heart of Warhammer!
(As an aside anyone who eventually wants to off load anything, let me know, as the longer this takes the harder stuff will be to come by!)

It is difficult to tell someone what to do I would just collect which bits you would like. I intend to collect a reasonable army for all the races I like (not 15k points ) however I will certainly not be collecting the bits I am not keen on - Beastmen, Tomb Kings, Ogres & Lizardmen - I just don't have the time to invest in things I am not passionate about. I will leave those to other people. I do worry about the availability of miniatures going forwards but I guess I can still get hold of marauder era models today so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem, they just might be recasts/more expensive/a mix.

I guess the question you should ask yourself is why build this collection? Is it to have them in cabinets looking all pretty, showing off awesome models or is it to play games or even big games? How did you decide on the 15K? Do you actually mean 15K of a legal army?
One approach would be come up with a 2500pt list (or whatever level you think you actually get to play games at) that is themed to whatever you like while still ~playable. Then also paint one unit of each of the other choices in the army book and probably including all the special characters. Not sure how that would work out point wise but it would show off all the options not just the ones you like most.
Now if only you had started this venture years ago, they may never have ended Fantasy due to that brisk business in Australia.
In the spirit of sharing our most intimate warhammer dreams...I want to get ~2500pt playable armies for most (or possibly) all factions while also growing my Empire and Chaos collections to an unreasonable size (part way there for the Empire I'd say). All of this at a glacial pace.

Honestly I was so gutted by AoS, long story short I grew up with Warhammer, my first marriage went down hill just prior to the end times and by the time the divorce was finalised, property settled and custody was arranged Warhammer was no more. I was GUTTED! The change was way too fast (in my eyes) so I decided I wanted to keep Warhammer, freeze time so to speak. My end goal and reason I wanted 15k points of each army is so that as my kids grow up hopefully ONE of them will play with me and then my grandkids! I want Poppas place to be a mystical world full of fantasy! The idea of teaching my grandkids to play Warhammer with me all afternoon in the school holidays is awesome. 15k is a number I came up with so that who ever I play, they can sit down and work out the exact army they want to play. They want 4 dragons? They can have 4! They want one of each vermin lord? They can have it! Then after I'm gone, the little ones can each pick the army they used to play with to remember me by.

That's a great reason to want such a large army and I *think* in a way you answered your own question. If you want people to be able to "sit down and work out the exact army they want to play" then it seems (to me) that if they're flipping through an army book and want to field duplicates of say...cold one knights or hydras then you should have enough knights/hydras painted to be able to do that. So to me it seems you should be painting more generic forces that encompass all units in the relevant army book rather than just what you envision you want for the army.
