Since I just started an Ogre Kingdom army, I was playing around with my Tyrant build and I thought I'd start a thread here for people to discuss anything concerning Tyrants. How do you kit them? Are there good strategies that anyone has seen? Tricks? Big Names? Post 'em here.
So far, I'm thinking of using this build:
Tyrant (Great Weapon, Armor of Silvered Steel, Other Trickster's Shard) - 287
The idea behind this build is to give him a high armor save to get through, let his WS6 and S7 (with GW included) do their thing, and keep opponent's failing their ward saves with the OTS.
Another option would be:
Tyrant (Great Weapon, Heavy Armor, Trickster's Helm, Other Trickster's Shard, Wallcrusher) - 320
So this one sacrifices a little bit in armor defense (2+ for a 4+ instead) for forcing all successful wounds to be re-rolled (Trickster's Helm). I also included Wallcrusher in there to give him a touch more offense by adding one more wound to his impact hits and ignoring any penalties for obstacles and the unit defending them. That should make him just a tad more killy, and extremely hard to kill.
In either case, I didn't give him a ward save because of the OTS, but also will rely on getting Trollguts (4+ Regeneration) off on his unit. It may not always go off, but with his high defense, toughness, and wounds, I'm not too worried about losing him. There should only be a few builds that could do that (Vampires, Oldbloods, Karl Franz, Archaon,...) and even then, they'd need to be rather lucky. Combat Res would be his downfall most of the time. This is how I've beaten Tyrants every time that I was victorious (well, one time to a Pit of Shades as well.). The Wallcrusher could come in handy providing more Combat Res.
What do you guys think? Did I miss something obvious?
