And here it is, the last house of Volganof. As I eluded to earlier, a bit of a beast as the print didn't come off the machine cleanly. I dremel-ed around to make the stonework passable. For the second floor windows I glued in a simple mesh, not sure where that is from but I think it looks alright for 'fantasy medieval'. The overall design is a bit odd. What kind of old-growth trees did they have to chop down for those timbers? Better not tell the Wood Elves!
Anyway, it's massive, it'll look good in the back row of houses at the table's edge. D'Waldo approved of the dimensions, stairs and railings are to code.
I did mess around with camera settings in natural light. Photography is still hit-and-miss for me. mostly miss.
So, now there is only walls and gates and gallows and woods and hills to do. Table is practically done
Thanks for your support guys. Your comments and resulting discussions are very motivating for both of us.

Thanks, and I agree. Unfortunately the logistics are just not doable at the moment.

It's been a long road to Volganof. Glad to see you've finally made it.

I think it looks pretty good. The cast quality might not be the best, but as a piece of terrain it works well - especially considering Volganof being "only" kind of the background for the actual battle before its gates. I would expect more for games like Frostgrave or Mordheim though.

So, my foam cutter arrived. So far it's everything I hoped it would be. Here (not quite finished on the build yet) is the mighty Gryphon Gate.

Wow thats great! What foam cutter is that? I'm not sure precisely what it's called (the manual was entirely in japanese), but here's a photo of the eBay listing: It works very very well. There's a couple of cutting jigs I'll need to make for it, specifically for long, precise, 45° cuts, but it goes through pink foam like butter. I've also finished an extra overhang building on the back of the gate: This is where a portcullis mechanism would be located, as well as access to the arrow slits on the front of the walls, and murder holes in the gate tunnel. And here's how much room there is on top of this mighty gate: There should be room for about 40+ soldiers up there (or, more likely, 2 war machines and a unit of missile troops). And the clearance height for lances:

I present, the Gryphon Gate! The first finished piece of the walls of Volganof. I still need to make the actual gates themselves, but it's really nice to have a solid piece of the fortification fully realized (though saying that, I may still end up adding some extra little bits here and there to make it more classically "empire").

Impressive work! The blue tiles really finish it off well!
