Simple, effective, elegant. That's what I'm going for. As you can see, there's not a tremendous amount of space on either side of the table top. That's one reason I'm keeping away from adding some of those fold-out "desk trays" that you see on some game table internet searches. The board that I had bought and set on top of another table (not quite 4x6), was starting to sag slightly at the edges since they were hanging off the table beneath. Now, with the added bracing, and edges, it'll hold it's shape, I can change out mats if needed (even make some 3D effect tops - future projects), and dice and models aren't in danger of rolling off or being knocked off. Also, now that my quads are almost 3 years old, this'll help keep wandering hands back from my models. I'm not quite finished as you can see (I still need to trim the corners a bit more - it was getting late last night when I reached this point) but I should be able to cut them and snug them up for a tight fit real soon. I hope you like! Let me know if you have any good ideas or comments! Clay and I are planning on having our big, 5000 point game next weekend, so that'll be it's inaugural run.

I finished putting on the sides last night. I'll have to take a break from it for a bit since I'll be headed out of town for a couple of days and won't be able to do much work on it after I get back for a while. But here it is, and it's functional enough for my game coming up!

Nice! Do you plan on having a way to tuck it away? Or are you allowed to leave it out? Those little chubby fingers crack plastic miniatures like they know nothing else. 🤪

(maybe that wasn't pictured but is that board attached in some way?)

I have been thinking of attaching some folding legs under the top to give it more stability, but also so that I can move it to other rooms and use it as a stand alone table, if needed. Right now, we have our library closed off from the little ones, but even if they were to manage to get in there, it'd take quite a bit of effort to push it over (It only overhangs around 1-2 inches on the long sides and about 1' on the ends).
Right now, we just leave it out and both me and my wife use it for our hobbies. When I'm not playing a game, she's using it to layout her fabric and make her cuts for the dresses she sows. We are fortunate enough to live in a ~3000 sq ft house, so we have ample room to spread out in. Our Library is a type of sanctuary for me and my wife. We tend to retreat there after the littles go down for bed.

My other two gaming mats came in yesterday as well! I truly love these mats. They roll up so easily and have their own carrying cases (look like pool cue cases) and have tags with the name and picture of which mat is in each case, so you don't have to open each one up in order to find the one you're looking for. They also are relatively thin and can easily layer if you just want to leave them out full-time (which is what I usually do).

table looks great with the mats. From the picture I think I prefer the first/top one.
The snow based one certainly suits your new Ogres though.

I've just added a display cabinet to my gaming room area. It was a birthday present and now I'll have a space to properly display my centerpiece miniature models! I only have a few that were readily available, set in there to show some sense of scale. I'll post more pics later when I fill it a touch better.
