I was over at the Chamber of the Everchosen when all that went down. Such good memories. I remember the forum was discussing a suitable name for the 1+ 3++ rr1 unkillable Chaos Lord. Then along came the mythical man hortennse and dropped this thread: www.tapatalk.com/groups/cotec/do-you-guys-realize-how-unfair-the-chaos-lord-is-t3636.htmlThe rest is history! I love how the name spread to a whole slew of warhammer forums! I wonder if he ever realized that the character was named after him (he left the forum pretty quickly). When you say 'left the forum' I think you mean was selected by Tzeentch for Daemonhood... No... that guy was a prime candidate for Spawndom. Chaos Spawn for sure!

Lately I've been feeling like adding a Chaos Lord to my Nurgle army. What do you think about this build? Chaos Lord, MoN, Shield, Scaled Skin, Soul Feeder, Glittering Scales, Sword of Anti-Heroes and Talisman of Preservation - 355 points. Seems like a very sturdy footslogger capable of duking it out against pretty much anything. I'm half-tempted to put him on a Palanquin and place him in my anvil-block of Nurgle Warriors with shields.

It's an interesting build. He could have some trouble offensively, but defensively he's very tough to kill, essentially everything will be hitting him on 6s. He only has a 3+ armor, though, so volume of attacks could be an issue. He'll probably do well against most characters but he would have trouble fighting any character on a monster due to the Thunderstomp auto-hit and the reduced armor save. It would probably be a good build but not the peak of challenge-god.

Isn’t it 1+/4++? Lords come with chaos armour included? Glittering Scales is Light Armor and the magic armor replaces the mundane so he loses the Chaos Armor.

I like it if only because it’s something different.

Yeah with the build in question I'll definitely try to avoid everything capable of thunderstomping as long as I don't put him on a palanquin. I am rather curious though if someone have a suggestion for a more offensively focused nurgle lord. Preferably one equipped with Glittering Scales since I find that item one of the few thematic ones for a Nurgle Lord.

I always pictured the Glittering scales as a well-maintained, highly polished suit of scale armour in either bright silver or gold, probably worn by a poncy High Elf. But I guess the "glittering" could be a Nurgly-sheen of slime over it The Sword of Anti-Heroes isn't a bad choice, but it's expensive given its lack of reliability. A big block of Nurgle foot warriors are going to be a prime candidate for "avoid the hell out of it" from your opponent, so you may find you rarely encounter characters (or at least ones where the sword makes a difference). That's the other problem with the lord (getting him to a decent fight) but that's inherent to any WoC infantry fighty character - you've just got to use your chaff well (and deploy well) to get the combats you want. If you want to stay "fluffy", the Filth Mace is an interesting alternative weapon. It's not one I usually recommend as the bonus is unreliable, but it would kind of help with your monster problem, in that it's good at killing them so long as you've killed something first, and with your high Initiative you'd be striking first. Otherwise, the other way to go would be a great weapon for a reliable constant S7, then you have 30 points to spend on an Enchanted Item of your choice (Potion of Strength/Toughness, The Other Trickster's Shard).

Why not palanquin, scaled-skin and a sword of might?

Thanks for the suggestions! I have been considering the Filth Mace for quite some time, not least because it's one of the few fluffy choices for a Nurgle character. I don't really think that I have to worry too much about monsters since I usually include two gorebeast chariots and a giant in my army but even so putting my lord on a palanquin does seem tempting, especially since it encourages me to also take the very fluffy Nurgle's Rot.As such what do you peeps think about the following build:
Chaos Lord, MoN, shield, Palanquin of Nurgle, Nurgle's Rot, Soul Feeder, Filth Mace, Helm of Many Eyes and Talisman of Preservation - 385 points.

This one is a dude I used I a series of 3 different STORM OF MAGIC games. Chaos Lord. Mark of Slaanesh. Riding a Steed of Slaanesh.
Dawnstar Sword. Double attacks. At “Presence” he’ll hit automatically. At “Equilibrium” you wound automatically as well.
In most STORM OF MAGIC games, if you bring this Cheeseball… you’ll want to get the first turn. You’ll want to charge. Your slick M10 Steed, and swift stride, helps that. I’d say 19” charge is pretty do’able 75% of the time. Pretty much line up against a juicy target. Make your charge. Dish out 10 Wounds with no rolling. Sure, they’ll have armor saves and ward saves. You’re S5 base, so that helps modify their armor a bit. This trick works best against things like a Sphinx or a Giant or a Dragon.
Or… take ye olde Potion of Strength. S5 base, +3. I typically assume 10 automatic hits with S8 will take care of most things for me. Chug that T1, charge. That should let you kill most characters.
Alternate play is a “Other Trickster’s Shard”, making them re-roll successful ward saves. Depending on who you want to smash, this can be better than Potion of Strength.
I usually tack on Soul Feeder to help keep him alive.
If you ever get to Dominance, it is sick. As in, not fun. 2D6 wounds? Not fair. If you know you’re getting the first turn, do all you can to gain Dominance and this guy could easily slice a unit of 10 trolls to absolute ribbons.

I haven't had the chance yet but I'm considering trying out this Nurgle Lord build: Chaos Lord [361pts]: Additional hand weapons, Mark of Nurgle, Poisonous Slime, Scaled Skin, Soul Feeder, Helm of Many Eyes, Potion of Strength, Talisman of Preservation
While he's probably much more efficient as a Khorne Lord I really like the concept of a Nurgle Lord rocking two weapons and being surprisingly fast for its massive bulk. Poisonous Slime is also one of the few nurgle thematic magic items/gift you can give yor characters.
All in all this set up seems to me like a good unit smasher who can throw a nasty punch when needed.

Hi Guys, I have two Chaos Lord setups to consider, both are Tzeentch marked and I reckon both of them to be quite effective as a mobile, hard-hitting factor to tip the balance in any given crucial combat.
1) Chaos Lord with Mark of Tzeentch, Soul Feeder, Third Eye of Tzeentch, Flaming Breath, Hellfire Sword, Talisman of Endurance, Enchanted Shield, Disc of Tzeench. 400 points flat.
A very fiery guy with decent protection (1+ AS, 4++ rerollable 1s) and probably the biggest damage output potential with 5 armour ignoring flaming S5 attacks doing 1D3 wounds each, plus the occasionally exploding model. Breath weapon is optional, but can be used also very flexibly, being very effective in a challenge or against ranked infantry in cc, or against big ranked units as a shooting attack. The model is very mobile with the Disc to position himself ideally, the weaknesses that I see are characters with the rather common 2+ ward against flaming, or targets with T7+ or very good general Ward saves, i.e. 4++ or better. Knights, Monstrous Infantry & Cavalry, Hell Pit Abominations etc. are premium targets for this guy!
2) Chaos Lord with Mark of Tzeentch, Soul Feeder, Poisonous Slime, Scaled Skin, Helm of Many Eyes, Talisman of Preservation, The other Tricksters Shard, Halberd, Disc of Tzeentch. 388 points.
Only fieldable with a BSB because of stupidity, but the BSB is also a very strong character in our army, and most armies should have one regardless of the general's setup. Soul Feeder can be exchanged with Third Eye of Tzeentch in unrestricted environments, Poisonous Slime should be kept as it boosts the damage output significantly due to the high possibility of getting rerolls to hit because of ASF with Ini 7. Five often re-rollable attacks with poison and S6, 1+ AS and 3++ Ward, forcing opponents to reroll successful Wards. Either regains wounds via Soul Feeder or rerolls Ward save results of "1". The above build is an alternative to the classic unkillable and stubborn Chaos Lord, this one has a more reliable damage output to mitigate the loss of the Crown of Command. He should be able to grind out most characters and units and has virtually no auto-lose matchups I can think of. The biggest weakness is the heavy reliance on BSB Ld rerolls, the sources are Stupidity and losing cc because of static CR.
Please let me know what you think of these two variants.

I like them both but mainly because I just like to see chaos lords taken rather than daemon princes!

Understandable, I have mixed feelings also about the WoC characters. I played the Daemon Prince in 6th edition as I like the concept very much, even when he really was quite underwhelming ruleswise, and now I have to admit that I feel rewarded for my patience with the model. But yeah, in my sane moments, I will acknowledge that he does a bit too much: unbreakable, hitting relatively hard, very hard to remove and a high level caster with some of the most destructive and/or annoying magic lores to choose from. The Chaos Lord struggles to compete with the sheer versatility of the Daemon Prince, but I will continue to field him nonetheless. He is a bit more specialized and also hampered by the "Eye of the Gods"-rule, but I like him enough to give him a go every now and then
