I think I've been going down a dead-end with my Dragon Ogres - I started painting their armour in a similar style to my Chaos Warriors (first post of this thread), albeit in "Khornate" colours - black armour, edged in red. But I really don't think it's working, and I need to change course: GW (and most other painted examples of these) paint the armour in dark silver, and I think I'm going to go down that route instead. Thankfully I'd only done the edging on this one.

Another beast joins: Cannot have too many beasts and I always liked this cool Beastlord model.

I painted over the armour of that Dragon Ogre and I'm much happier with it this way (it's not shaded/highlighted yet): It's much "plainer" and doesn't stand out so much, but I think that's to the benefit of the model. It's not like a Chaos Warrior, for whom the chief thing is that they are covered in massive slabs of heavy plate armour. The Dragon Ogre model is about the Dragon Ogre itself, and it was being overshadowed before.

The armour suits him more now I think!

The awesome skin pops a lot more with the silver armor.

Damn that looks good! I love how the horns, or whatever, are a light green tone. Looks much better than pure bone I think! Well done.

Good call on the Dragon Ogre armor. Really like them. You just keep pumping out great models at an intimidating rate.

Another Beastman now - this time Mierce's Chaaruch the Despoiler (unhelmed version), who makes a good Beastlord. I like everything about the model except for the front of the muzzle/mouth, which looks a bit like a Wallace & Gromit Claymation smile. What I really like about the model is the size of it. Beastlords (much like Orc Bosses) are supposed to be huuuuge, towering over regular Gors, and wider too. The old GW Beastlord/Wargor models are great but don't have that same presence - they can even get overshadowed by a Bestigor unit champion. This guy stands out, and looks like he should be bossing around his warherd: I don't know what you're talking about - Gromit is s great name for a beastlord, and seeking to take the opponent's best cheese is definitely a valorous deed!

I guess he needs to be at the edge of the regiment? The weapon looks so menacing, perfect for a magical weapon. Great work!

Thanks! Yeah, he's one of those models that can only go at the edge, which is his fault for stealing Bragg the Gutsman's weapon.
I do think GW should have been less afraid of using 40mm / 50mm bases for infantry Lords/Heroes that had the stature to require them, like a chunky Orc Warboss. It would have given them much more freedom to create more dynamic and realistically sized characters for those races where size is everything. I've started using larger bases on occasions, such as Radukar (Cursed City vampire) who could only go on a 40mm, and my Dwarf Lord on Shieldbearers.
