I'm just wondering who varnishes their models and which brand you use?
I've not varnished things in many years but with all the moving around I'm currently doing I've been considering it with the increases in chips I've been getting.
Do you find it alters how things look?

I used to varnish everything. now I just do it with metal models (and also painted movement trays). GW brand. it will take away the metallic sheen a bit, noticeably on larger surfaces mostly, for example a unit of knights will look quite a bit duller. After varnishing I have been drybrushing again over some of the horse armor pieces to counter this. Also, paying attention to humidity, temperature and excessive rattling of that can will only lower your chance of completely ruining your paint jobs. Prayers to the dark gods might also help. but, the frost-of-doom can still strike whenever and wherever it chooses.

I use the Army Painter matt varnish. I usually spray 2 light coatings letting the mini dry in between. Cant say ive noticed much difference in shine/mattness on normal colours or metal, a quick touch up with colour or gloss should resolve any problems.
Like Naitsabes said "paying attention to humidity, temperature and excessive rattling" is key to avoid the frost, and i would like to add, several light coatings is better then a single thick one.
