Super fun game. Definitely looking forward to another game, and appreciate y'all allowing me to play with you. Congrats to the empire for winning the border war. I'm still mad about the tarriffs on Sylvanian yams. The Bretonian general escaped with his life, and I am homestly surprised the Cackling necromancer managed to live to fight another battle.

After a lackluster showing this past Sunday, I think it's time for a proper crusade. Too many evil undead and dishonorable and duplicitous Imperials lurking about that are in need of some the Lady's righteous fury... The official GW Bret book is pretty limited in regards to troop options / outdated rules, so I've been checking out the Warhammer Armies Project for a while now: warhammerarmiesproject.blogspot.com/WAP has is pretty popular in the community and seem to make updates to their homebrew rules to keep things fair and balanced. They have an "unofficial" 8th edition Bret AB that has a lot more troop options and updated rules to coincide with the all of the army books that got updated in 8th. How would you guys feel about me using this AB for one of our upcoming sessions? Like I said, I've been curious to try a crusader / Errantry War style army, there just isn't enough variety in the official rulebook to allow it. Here's a link to just the army rules with the fluff removed: drive.google.com/file/d/1GiPYumWGVa3OvfQLGLwg0QnPX5IyanAs/viewHere's the full AB: drive.google.com/file/d/0B_Redi9cZJ5iS3JheVpnUXRkSU0/view

So I've not made it to a GnS day yet but I have been playing my beastmen with the WHAP book and I've been quite happy with it. It has felt pretty balanced, it gives the beastmen army huge buffs which quite frankly were needed, but it doesn't feel OP. Playing against High Elves I still feel at a distinct disadvantage (which I think I should vs one of the "powerful" 8th books) but I feel like most options in the army list are worth, or at least ok to take. This is compared to the 7th book where there isn't a single playable rare choice for the army.
And it's not all buffs, most notable nerf in Beastmen book is Gors going from WS4->3 which I think is reasonable for the fluff and helps distinguish them from Beastigores a little more. I also looked at the OK book which was a mix of buffs and nerfs.
I'm of mixed feelings on all the added units but I like that most are rooted in GW "canon" somewhere. For instance Beastmen book adds some monsters GW has printed at various points, an evil tree that was in an old White Dwarf, beastmen mutants which are popular in the fluff. It also adds big ridden monsters which I don't think are in the fluff but fit the army feel and there are some cool models out there. So I'm not using any of these more homebrew units, but I don't mind them existing and I'd love to see someone convert up a unit of mutants.
So yeah, I like the books and should we play I'm happy to have you use the WHAP. I know another Bret player in the area looked at it and said he liked it.

You Bretts dont know what it's like, battling chaos and corruption on a regular basis, with your magical lady, and hoity-toitey lords.
Hard decisions were made that day.
Anyway man, absolutely. I have no problem with it at all, I look forward to seeing what you field!

After a lackluster showing this past Sunday, I think it's time for a proper crusade. [/a][/quote] I say go for it! The only way to see if the book is any good is to test it out. It's all about fun and getting away from work/kids for a few hours to laugh and throw some dice. I am always up for trying something different. Besides if you win, we can blame it on the book and ridicule you mercilessly 😆 I have been reading over the WAP books as of late and thinking of giving the Beastmen & DoW a try. The Kislev book intrigues me as well, some day I'll have to dig them out of storage.

What are the new units? I’m unfamiliar with the brets book so I don’t even notice differences. They’re mostly Bretonnia off-brand Empire troops. Besides the special characters, there are new hero units: Templars and Priestess of Shallya. Basically just Warrior priests but divided up over 2 units. One has buffing/defensive bound spells and the other gives hatred to infantry or re-roll a charge die when mounted. Men-at-Arms have been buffed to WS 3 and given more weapon options. New unit are peasant rabble, are basically Skaven slaves that don’t pop and have terrible LD. New special are squires on foot (skirmishers) and herrimault (think Robin Hood’s merry men) but are essentially Huntsmen. New are brigands, which are basic just mercenaries and can have just about anything an state trooper can have. Also have Foot Knights which are basically WS4 state troops with equipment options. Rare has a smaller stone throwers, ballista (BS 2 lol), and an seige cannon that is just as likely to blow up as a Skaven lightning cannon. They have hippogriff knights, which are basically demigryph knights. They did a Swarm type model which is basically a forest ghost. And a basically a lady of the lake war alter that does area of effect defensive buffs. Overall, most core knights didn’t really change. They got slightly more expensive, but the Lance formation was also buffed slightly. The blessing was tweaked. No longer a flat 6+ ward or 5+ against S5 or higher. It’s 5+ against shooting and 6+ in combat. There is unique lore, which is mostly defensive/buffing.

The foot Knights are a nice addition. Having and infantry unit with a 4+ and perry is pretty good OR heavy armour and halberds isn't too bad either.

You may find you don’t want to use them at all?

You may find you don’t want to use them at all? Yeah, there is no shame in proxying some models for a few games until you figure out if you like a unit. Gaming isn't getting much cheaper these days, so save your money for something you definitely want.

Having purchased both Fireforge and Perry minis, the Fireforge ones are really good Bret alternatives. I think the Perry War of the Roses archers are nicer for general Empire and Bret archers
