Yeah, I've owned this box for a LONG time seeing as how I don't ever usually take them. I already have 30 assembled and primed, but that unit alone will cost at least 360 points, so I figure they either need to be taken in sizes of at least 20 to act as a quick secondary hammer, of a hefty 40-man sized horde that will have some grind power behind it. Can you imagine sending them in against a unit of Executioner's or Tomb Guard?
Either way, you expect to lose the lot of them and play them accordingly. It's a gamble, putting approximately 1/4 to 1/5 of your points into one throw-away unit. Add to that, you'll probably want to take a Luminark behind them, maybe a Warm Altar, etc. just to give them that extra little punch that Empire units usually need. They are Unbreakable though, so you never have to worry about them getting run down!

Yes I think you are probably right, some throw away flank unit of 20 which is unbreakable, or a big block of 40. They look reasonably over costed at 12 points each considering a Greatsword comes in at 11.
They should hurt whatever they are fighting a bit at least

The only problem with 20 model units is how quickly a unit of that size martyrs itself to near useless.

The chequerboard is awesome buddy. Do you start with a white undercoat and pencil in the design? Thanks, guys! You hit the nail on the head, knoffles! I'd say the hardest part was keeping the checkerboard lines consistent. You can see from front to back they get larger. Lol! Oh well, I was getting tired by the time I got to the back, I suppose. Still pleased with the results. This is the first time I've tried to make a checkerboard pattern. Great work with the pattern, especially considering its your first go. I immediately thought of the 40k Harlequins and the old White Dwarf paint guide for them and their patterns. Very thematic paint job.

Lol, this is one of the first models I painted up some 15+ years ago. I look at it know and think, "Wow, that was bad!". So basic. Time for some much-needed attention!

looks good to me. maybe improve the shading on the sleeves? the legs, mostly red with blue peaking through from dark recesses looks much better to me than the reverse on the arms.

You're probably right.. But what I'll need to do is go back a layer and apply a dark blue beneath and layer it with this blue. I stopped with this shade, because that was the closest to the desired end color. Minor thing for one model. I'll fix this one and see how it looks and if it pleases me, I'll go with that.

Very nice wizards. Have you seen the frostgrave kit that comes with i think 6 or 8 wizards? Would they fit into your army or are you sticking with GW for this one?
