I really like that sculpt too. Most of the metal Tzeentch characters are awesome IMO. Good job on the pale blue cloaks and colour transitions on the staff.

well, it's been too long! The dwarfs really distracted me but, the dark gods cannot be denied too long. First up, I bulked out my core a bit by adding a rank to these warriors. They are evil, they are mean, they like to put their right foot forward. I wish they'd be a bit more varied but, I think the bigger the unit the better they look. And then here is a mighty Lord on Manticore. ROOAAAARGHHH. I tried to stretch my abilities a bit on the membrane wings. It's a bit rough in places but overall it worked out I think. Also played with color gradations on the wing claws and the tail. And, I learned to appreciate the power of the yellow glaze. Makes for a vibrant yellow tail. Originally I wanted to go with black-yellow bee stripes but, I chickened out. There are two riders, the wizard is work in progress still, he's got a ridiculously large cloak. Not easy to deal with. I really would like to find another ride for him but, not easy. That cloak is something else. The two rider are magnetized so I will be able to switch them out. Now brace yourself for a close-up. I am slowly gearing up to do more chaos dwarf stuff so, hopefully the next update won't take as long.

I really like the manticore and rider and how you’ve painted it. The yellow is a really unusual colour for a WoC army (well I’ve never seen it used but for all I know it might be really popular) so I’m guessing it really stands out in your army.

Great updates, great job with the chaos warriors unit and the Manticore looks beastly.
Looking forward to seeing the children of Hashut.

I love what you've done with the unit and Manticore! One point of critique: I think that the wing membranes cane use a little work. You've painted them a solid yellow across the entire expanse of the wing. Some of the best wing membrane effects I've seen start with a dark color and layer up lighter and lighter toward the center of the wing. That can be done quite easily with some careful drybrushing. I think you'd like the model much more with that effect. Here are a few examples of what I've talking about: Your yellow would be an amazing pop color with a more muted brown/beige/yellow gradation build up!

Thanks for the feedback, mottdon. so what I was TRYING to do was similar to that Archaeon'ish guy in the second picture, i.e. a gradation from dark at the outside/bottom to light at the inside/top. In my case grey-ish at the bottom to yellow at the top. (As opposed to having the gradation from dark at the finger to light in the middle for each segment like in the first picture.) Live and learn though. A difficulty for me is that at the end I put on a couple layers of glaze to blend things together the easy way (as opposed to 'properly' blending) and in hindsight that means you have to make the gradation quite a bit starker so it is still nicely present after the glazes.
I have a dragon that's been sitting unloved in a box for a long time. That could be my next venture into flappy membrane painting...one day.
Anyway, I have the rare chance to actually play a game this weekend, against up-and-coming warlord alanthemoderate and am pretty excited about fielding this guy. Fingers crossed the trebs don't get him on turn one.

Very cool! I tried to include several examples to see which effect you were going for. I thought that second one might've been your case, so I tried to find one similar. I know you are an accomplished painter, so I'm sure you were well aware of all these variations already.

just a little update, I finished the wizard rider. The cloak defeated me, I just fudged to get it sort of done. I may have mentioned earlier that ultimately I want to find an alternative mount for this guy. It'll be hard because of the cloak. If anyone has an idea what model could work, I'd appreciate it.

I love that cloak but yes, the whole "cloak over a cloak" look is very difficult to paint, not to mention basic cloth in such large amounts like that is can be very difficult to make look "right".
I like the look you've gone with and think you should be proud of what you've accomplished!
Unsure about different mount approaches though...I mounted the lord from this kit onto a juggernaught and use it as my Khorne bsb. Are you wanting to mount him on a horse? Dragon? Daemonic steed?

I kind of like the Lord to stay on the manticore and find another home for the wizard. Ideally. But, that cloak is something else. It's 'fairy princess at wedding' length, the one that needs twenty maidens following after ushering the cloak along. Looked ridiculous when I put the wizard on a daemonic steed.
I will play a little with having the lord on a jugger. I like that idea. Do you have pics somewhere?

yeah it's not going to lend itself well to rnf so a horse is probably out of the question. I would go with a daemonic steed. A lvl2 sorcerer would get another wound and another point of toughness. My favorite models for that are the varanguard. They're pricey and may need a little bit of work in order to make it fit but you'd also end up with two extra daemonic mounts + riders. page 2 of my painting log has some sprue pics of the Varanguard. Here's my bsb:
