looks like that After inspecting like the problem is more with the green stuff than the mould. I obviously did a less than perfect job packing it

Never used moulds - do you have to try and pack in as tightly and as much as possible?

You need to press it into the mould to transfer the detail whilst making sure there are no air bubbles. Some people use resin and proper silicone/other moulds

Very cool. Blue Stuff is basically the same thing, but you don't have to put it in a freezer. I'm sure it doesn't set as hard as that stuff, but it's pretty easy to use (and reuse).

I found I did better on my blue stuff attempts the second go round. Once I'd filled the mould with greenstuff I'd really squish it down and leave it weighted with something for a while to make sure the Greenstuff was squashed in to try and capture all the details. I'm definitely following this with interest. It's so cool that you are custom making chaos dwarfs.

So I tried breaking it down into two moulds, one for the hat and one for the body. I only really needed the upper half so want too concerned about the bottom. I made a two part mould this time It worked a little better, I think with another go I could get it pretty good but I think this will do with some minor repairs

Nice one. Love the solo mold for the Big Hat Hashut would be proud! This centaur musician will be awesome.

It's coming along, still needs a little more work and filling but I think it will be passable once it has some paint on it. Better quality than a shonky recast I ended up with from eBay anyway!

He looks great. That's an awesome centaur musician.
That torso almost fits better on the Centaur body than it does on the standard Chaos Dwarf one.
Very impressed.

I've been working on my Azhag, he's not far from done. I had a go at some directional lighting of sorts - a glow from the gem on the crown of sorcery. Anyone got any pointers or thoughts on this? In my opinion it's okish but I'm not super happy with it. The glow is kind of underwhelming. Not sure if it gets lost because of my colour choice or if it's just not painted right. May have been better green? Or am i picking holes?

The head overall looks great but the gem itself doesn't really stand out like you mention.
Maybe add some additional paint to the gem?

Yeah I thought that but I'm not too sure how to make the purple pop more. I think purple on silver is certainly some of the issue.
Or perhaps I need a different purple, something more pink?

Well, first off, the head looks amazing! Especially the horns! That's what immediately grabbed my attention. I'm gonna have to steal that method!
Secondly, you're right, the gem doesn't show at all really. You need a higher contrast with the cold, metallic color of the helm. Pink could work. Or if you painted the helm a warm color, like gold, then the purple could do better, but the "glow" from the gem would be harder to pull off.
Third, don't be too afraid to really push that "glow effect" from the gem. That's what's going to sell it as a magical item, and since it's so interwoven into the character's backstory, I believe it should really pop and immediately be noticed when someone looks at the model. That may mean covering up bits of that beautiful mug with pink or whatever (especially on surfaces like his lips - just be careful not to make him look like he's wearing lipstick! 😁).
I'm super excited to see him finished! That's one model I always avoided getting because he was so expensive. Looks like you're really doing him justice!

Cheers I think you're right, maybe I need to pick up a nice bright pink (Emperor's Children perhaps?) and have another go at the transitions. I kind of want to keep the Crown iron like in the lore, even though I think this is some of the problem. I just read through/watched this which was quite helpful www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/7pwx5v/paint_suggestions_for_a_purple_glow/As for the horns, I just use the method from 'Eavy Metal Masterclass which is rather lovely. You can use it dark > light or light > dark and it looks nice either way. It is an excellent book although is probably difficult to locate these days Here is the bit with the horns on:

I dug through my old paints and found a Warlock purple so took another pass at it. I think its turned out better. In hindsight I would have painted the plumage a different colour but what can you do
